OK so each wash regardless of vinegar and car wash/Laundry liquid and temperature, the drying towels slowly get stiff and lose their absorbtion qualities



Most of mine are four years old and still clean but lacking some (not all) the capillary action



Is their anything at all that will restore the suction power close to new again

hardness can be kept under control by vinegar but

Can't really afford to buy more than two or three cobra towels at the moment



The guzzler I have is holding up better than the Pakshak's
 
4 years does seem kinda long.. I think new towels are in order :)



But before you do that, you can either try boiling the towels or using Micro-Restore.
 
Micro restore didn't do much. Hey I can still dry with one towel due to my water vanish ultra hydrophobic drying aid spray but even if I buy new ones, it only takes six months for them to lose their newish qualities.
 
Wait, can you explain this ultra hydrophobic drying aid? Do you think it's possible that the spray is causing your towel's to lose their effectiveness?
 
This was happening way before I made up the drying aid formula.

Each wash is taking the suction away.



The drying aid simply makes water that sits on a car or slowly sheets away, sheet away extremely quickly and make panels bone dry in seconds
 
Well I think I have found the solution. It may not work at all but I'm prepared to sacrifice a couple of old towels to test it

I was thinking about buying some glycerin to add to polishes that have a working time that I don't like and I did some research and it turns out that it is hydrophilic (water loving)



So I'll wash and do a rinse then follow with certain amount of glycerin in the machine, run a short cycle and then a rinse with reverse osmosis water.

It may not work and may sound silly to some but I'm just mad enough to try it

I will do anything for a solution
 
Like mikebai1990 mentioned, I would try boiling a couple of them for about ten minutes.



I haven't had to do that myself yet, but I've read enough from people who I trust that I won't hesitate to do so if needed.

I only use Micro-Restore and maybe an APC as a pre-soak on really dirty MF's, but I keep an eye on the rinse cycles to make sure no soap residue is left (no suds).



I'd also like some more details on your water vanish ultra hydrophobic drying aid spray. Is this something you mixed up yourself? If so, could you share the recipe?

Despite being miscible in water, I would be cautious about using glycerin. We use it for research purposes and cleanup can be a real PITA. It gets on our glassware, counter tops, etc. and often requires straight-up industrial clorox cleaner to cut it. Glassware requires a thorough cleaning followed by windex (or the like). If there is any glycerin remaining in the towel (which is your goal) I think it would leave streaks-a-plenty.



Also if we want to use somewhat technical terms here anti hydrophobic = hydrophilic.
 
Yeah, stay away from glycerine.



Have you tried HOT water rinsing several times? Not boiling...I'm still uncertain of that...but rinsing in HOT water several times.



Whenever I do that heaps of suds are released, regardless of carefully I've washed/rinsed before. They come out very soft and newish.



If nothing works, be happy they've lasted this long. You've done well.
 
Thankyou very much guys. I'll try hot water several times and even boiling and leave the glycerin to the other use I mentioned



Yes I have done well, got some samples of waffle weaves and other MF's coming direct from SKorea to test and will buy them if they are as good as my pakshak's and guzzlers
 
SVR- If it's any consolation, my WWMFs eventually get like yours no matter what I do :nixweiss I blame my water and also assume that WWMFs have a finite functional lifespan (just as my WWMFs for glass eventually start to leave lint).



Last thing I tried was over a dozen washes without detergent in my new washer that has a very hot "sanitize" cycle, many of them (and, of course, the final rinse) with vinegar. Worked so-so, the towels adsorb a little bit better.



No, I didn't try boiling them.



I figure the WW texture wears and that diminishes the drying ability, but hey :nixweiss



I've just put a pair each of PakShack Ultra-soft WWs and Sonus Der Drying Towels (IIRC that's the name) into service. We'll see how they work and how long before if/when their performance drops off.



I missed any previous mention of your drying aid/Vanish (funny, I'm running across a lot of threads I've somehow missed using the "NEW POSTS" function :think: ). Could you please recap or provide a link so I can learn more?
 
I have not boiled any of mine yet but that would be first thing I would try before trying anything else.
 
Vanish makes the surface tension different so that the water can sheet away extremely fast, leaving the surface bone dry by the time the water has sheeted off of it.



I'm very excited about it's potential to maybe virtually eliminate exterior drying and just leave jambs etc to be dried.
 
I think we're all still waiting to know what this secrect "Vanish" formula is :nervous: ... are you going to share it with us?

You'll need to buy alot of different things to mix it up.

Unless you're going to market it, why the wait? Particularly, since you're likely to reveal it "soon". :werd:
 
Haha. I'm going to make sure it works every time on every car I have access to before I release what is in it or market it. I'd look like a goose if it didn't work every time.
 
My guess is that this "vanish" is a series of QDs with some other stuff mixed together.



Spray a good QD on the surface of a wet car if you want to see water roll off.
