Another storm on it's way........

gotta make sure he don't get something I want :)

Supposed to get 9" here overnight. I have a 6am flight to San Diego tomorrow morning. Those 2 statements together equals 50/50 chance I get out of here.

My son is flying back from Hartford tomorrow. Mebbe see him July 4th or so

what ya getting ?

After much deep thought and reflection, I ordered the Kompakt. I had considered the Rupes 75 E mini. I have a Flex 3401 and PC 7424 non-XP.
I read many posts, opinions, reviews, and such. I've wanted a rotary for a long time. Also ordered an extension too.

Sound good Ron? LOL!

This storm hits southeast Michigan late tonight. Current models are showing up to 18" of snow as of right now. I'm expecting a blizzard warning by the end of the day

Ron's at the car show and asked me to post these while he thumbs his nose at those of us in the cold. Click on them, see if he left any swirls. ;)

So apparently this storm has been named now. Linus. Got your blankeys ready?

Naming every single storm is really dumb IMO. Gotta sensationalize everything these days

My Blizzak's say bring it on! ;)

Nice to see somebody else running snowtires! I get *SO* sick and tired of hearing "I have AWD/4WD, so I don't need those". I mean, sheesh, all our winter-driven vehicles have all four wheels driven too, and IM (considerable) E the tires make a much bigger diff but people don't want to hear it. Eh, for that matter, I can honestly say that some of my *best* winter cars were RWD cars with LSD and winter tires.

I have clients with Rwd Porsches with Blizzaks that performed better than my Awd S60R with all seasons. I had heard through the grape vine that all seasons are illegal in canada (If so smart choice). All seasons are summers just good in rain imo. I can honestly say after running Blizzaks I will ALWAYS have a dedicated winter setup. The other thing is I get to run a smaller rim an bigger sidewall for those gloriously snowplow potholes (IED road holes!). Having a 50 series sidewall is amazing for NY roads.

AWD....Lol.

4WD or stay home.

If you got a Porsche & live where it snows - and don't own a 4WD VEHICLE - shame on you. Trade in your Porsche for a used Vette and a 4WD truck. I think the same people that drive Porsches' in the snow wear shorts when it's like 11°. Clueless.

Did you not just read what we wrote? It doesn't matter if you have AWD or 4WD. If you seriously think what drive train you have matters over what tread then shame on you....

An not having 4wd drive car because you own a Porsche very poor taste IMO. Some of my clients who own Porsches have them not because they are what you seem to perceive as rich when in fact they are normal hard working people like you an me, they just saved and where smart about where they put money. So no my clients are definitely not clueless...

Also worth a note a standard 4wd systems are not always better then AWD. Haldex, Quattro and Attessa are the most advance AWD systems on the planet and blow away any convention 4wd system. Personally I like not having torque steer either.

Yes I read what you wrote & I disagree - that's why I wrote what I wrote.

I can see opinion clearly wins over facts.

What facts are you talking about? I never said or implied anyone with a Porsche is "rich". Actually, I said if they lived where it snows they would be better off trading it in for a used Vette and a 4 WD truck - which to me suggests the opposite.

Secondly, you'd be hard pressed to find any facts that says a Porsche with Blizzaks or an AWD car is better in serious snow than - 4WD truck.

I though I would chime in here as I was driving to work quite gingerly on the snow and slush filled street and was passed by a 911 Turbo having no traction problems.

I have a friend with a Subaru WRX, STI (on winter wheels and Blizaks in winter) and its almost too powerful for the snow and you can break traction at will, my sons Subaru Legacy Limited runs through this as well if not better than my wife's MDX. We run all seasons on both cars ATM. My 2002 QX4 with its older drive train is just unstoppable. It's a family extra and I keep it around because it worth more to me that what I can sell it for. I will miss it when its gone. Its never let me down. Drive through snow, deep water and its never let me stranded. I love the feeling of not worrying about it like I do my other cars. it is quite a liberating experience.

The single most important factor is the driver, in any situation, his skill level and experience. Next is the vehicle (among with how it is equipt). I have seen guys in properly equipped purpose built vehicles bite off more than they can chew.

In sever conditions nobody should be on the road. Last year we had a very bad winter. The local news asked for help getting employees to the local hospital hospital. I drove a shuttle (my truck) for an afternoon on Sunday in my SUV and it was a horrific white knuckle experience. SUV's can accelerate better than some cars but they don't stop any better and possible even worse due to weight. Most of my anxiety was caused by other drivers sliding all around me. Not sure I would do that again. Simply too much risk all around. You live and you learn.

I would agree the Porsche might have clearance issue vs a truck. And unless the Porsche has winter tires, it should be at home in snow/ice. I personally would not drive my Porsche even with snow tires because I would fear the other drivers damaging my car. I love factory paint and would hate to deal with the diminished value on a high end car like a Porsche. But, from what I know, the AWD Porsche cars are engineered to be 4 season daily drivers with the correct equipment. Not that I have driven one on the blizzard either, but I know people who have and will again.

Please save the blow hard saving face argument.
