Why top it:nixweiss

How many miles on the black beauty?

Thanks Steve, :bow

Truthfully, if this was not my hobby car I would not top. I applied some EX on the LS400 this weekend and my wife loves the appearance. Since this is a daily driver I will not top with a carnuaba and just let the EX shine show through until its weekly wash ( Spring, Summer, Fall).

Back to the Z28. The reason I am topping is to forfill my "detailing jones". Yes I could just add another coats of EX but you know Steve that I am a mad scientist when it comes to detailing and I love just trying new things and combinations of such. :nixweiss

Also since EX has carnuaba as part of its formulation and from my previous testing of this product, the addition of more EX is just a gentle wash away. I have layered EX over Souveran and P21S without any incompatibility problems, hazing, streaking or gummy of surface. What effect this will have on durabilty is unknown but that is not a factor with this car.

The 95 Z28 has ~34,000 miles but has only been driven ~5000 miles the last 3 years ( given a company car):bounce . She has not seen any inclimate weather in this time period and I usually perform some unneeded detailing task almost everyday.

Glad to hear everything went well with Lana yesterday.:xyxthumbs

I did a simple application of EX yesterday (in b/w guests at the house):

I simply used poorboy s&w (later on this) on a clean car hood then applied the EX wax. It was real easy to apply. I would say a little thicker than AIO but very easy to spread (used the earlier suggestion of a foam pad). The color is bright yellow and sort of a sweet banana smell? Anyways, I put thin layers like I would AIO or zaino and then went back to the guests. An hour or so later I buffed it of with a mf and wow!! smooth as a baby butt. Even though this was done in the garage with average lighting, I could tell that EX gave a carnauba/wet look (reminds me of platinum upp).

This was done on my silver car. I know it was only a simple test but I have to say it look very similar to my ps21/s100 look:) .

I forgot to ask my quesation about the spray & wash:o (oops).

Do we use it sparingly like our qd or more liberally when we are doing a dry wash?

Thanks.

Ash...both is your answer..it can be diluted(recently found out upto 50% by someone on Autopia) for just QD use and yes if the vehicle is dirty I recommend using full strength and a little more, not a lot, just a little:xyxthumbs ..if there is salt or sand from the winter two applications may be needed.

Since these tests have only been for a couple of weeks, maybe you guys who are not topping every week can report on durability after 1 or 2 months?:)

I will report on the durability of EX. My daily driver just got a EX treatment this past weekend and will not be topped. Unfortunately, this test will only last a month with washings every week and QD'ing with Clearkote QD. I believe Steve has some long-term testing that has been going on for months. Maybe he can response on this topic. I do know that he did picked people from different areas of country in order to test durability under differing environment conditions.

Poorboy will there be an EX designed QD?

As a side note my Blackfire II topped with P21S winter durability test (LS400 daily driver): after 3 months it still beaded.:xyxthumbs

Remind me again...was it one coat of BFII and one coat of P21S? If so, that's pretty good. One your daily driver LS400 right?

I get the Escort wagon, the wife gets the LS400 as daily drivers.:o

It was two coats of BFII and one coat of P21S. The amazing part is that we had a rough winter this year and sense I could not justify getting frost bite using proper technique I only wash it twice. The first with Spray and Wipe and the other a laser wash.

Definitely the longest I have gone without re-waxes in years.:wavey

One week after applying Poorboy's EX to the hood and trunk of the LS400 (daily driver) and several nocturnal rains ( thank goodness not snow) and 3 days of temps over 60 the EX shine and surfaces appeared great. No water spotting ( nocturnal exposure to beading) but did have two area of bird droppings that I did not notice until right prior to washing vehicle. I shampooed car and the beading was still present. Not as tight as a Zaino bead but a medium bead. I dries with a synthetic chamois and final wiped with a waffle-weave MF. Both test surface appear unaltered by the week long environmental assault and the spots that had bird droppings did not erode the EX ( more lucky than good :nixweiss ). The surface was still initial sleek, deep, glossy and wet appearing. I QD'd with Quick Shine and "BAM" ready for another week.

So far EX has passed the 24/7- 1 week exposure test:xyxthumbs . I will report back next week after the weekly wash and post a 2 week result.

Does anyone know when EX will be ready to purchase. Have been reading everything posted about it and can`t wait to order. The weather this coming weekend in Michigan is suppose to be springlike and I`m ready to get started detailing.

Thanks

Give Steve a PM (Poorboy). He will answer all your questions about delivery date. I am sure from my last conversation with Steve the it is very, very soon.:xyxthumbs

blkZ28Conv, thanks for the update. It is still cold here and I have yet to be able to use EX properly (a total prep included).

Well it seems like we are in the monsoon season here in southern Va. We have had off-and-on rain showers since last Friday evening and will not completely clear until this Friday:( But the grass is now green, growing and the buttercups blooming :bounce . I was unable to wash test vehicle this weekend but I have been analysizing the test surfaces. Still beading with not change of bead size from Week 1. Gloss and general appearance still great in spite of thin veneer of grim. I did detail with PB's Spray and Wipe on Tuesday of last week and QD'd with Mother's. The stunning finding is the lack of water-spotting. I believe that this is a result of coalescing of individual beads that eventually exceed the surface adhersive forces and drain off the panel. A more extensive evaluation will be done next weekend when I get a chance to wash her and see if any surface damage ( water spotting) becomes evident.

:wavey

I've also noticed no change in bead size on my wife's pacific green Taurus. I thought the beads were a little looser than a typical carnauba right from the beginning but nice to see it hasn't changed one bit in a close to a month. I also agree with blkz28conv that water just doesn't seem to stay on the surface.....it rolls off just being parked in the driveway.

I must say that so far the durability seems very good. Before anyone says, it's only been a month, this is also on a non-garaged, DD that has seen a couple snowfalls, rains and tons of road salt since the EX was initially applied (only one coat).

Sounds great!! I am actually able to apply the sample as the weather has improved and am very excited from the initial reviews:bounce .

EX, can it be put in direct sunlight?

Yes but be careful. EX must be applied evenly over surface or streaking will occur ( did test on black LS400). This streaking can be rectified with a QD or second coat of EX.

EX is direct sunlight friendly but be careful. Always avoid, when possible, this type of situation. :wavey
