2000 528i, finish still pretty good, just the standard light swirls and a little "bumpy", plan on claying and then polishing with CMA orange pad with AIO and then the "green" pad with SG...any advice?

thanks...

Don't use a pad with SG. It needs to go on super thin - the thinner the better. Use SEARCH button to read Bill North's WipeOn/WipeOff method.

I feel that the secret to applying SG is to make it very, very thin coats. I thin it out by applying SG to the paint and then spritzing with Sonus Acrylic spritz. Use the spritz to spread the SG until you almost can't see it on the surface. If you put it on thick you will have problems taking it off and you will have uneven application. I make it a thin coat, let it dry one hour and then buff it off with a MF towel.

The orange/AIO combo will probably NOT remove the marring you're dealing with. AIO is SO mildy abrasive that it just doesn't do that. You oughta get something stronger, like 3M PI-III MG (pn 05397). That's a good, mild, general-use polish that works well before AIO.

For the SG, much as *I* like applying it by machine, you're probably better off doing it by hand (at least until you've done it a few times). And I dunno about that green pad. I've used "thick" pads before and wasn't too impressed by them (my green one's just sitting here, can't get enthused enough to try it :o ).

Doesn't the 3M PI-III MG fill the swirls like SMR or #9 which would be removed by AIO?
PI-III is supposed to be filler-free if I remember right.

I don't know why I am hearing a lot of people say that SMR and #9 are "nothing but fillers" as of late, :nixweiss but they do have a mild abrasive in them, as well as modest amounts of fillers.

Welcome to Autopia by the way. :wavey
