Another newbie advice thread..

Hello all,

I've done a lot of reading/lurking around here and AG as to what machine and what products I should start using. I mainly want to be able to tackle some of the dealer's screw ups on my paint. The dealer left a bunch of swirl marks on my new car's roof, along with some light scratches I guess (2 long lines that run the length of the roof and 1 long line on the roof that runs the length of the windshield as well, that are visible when dust and dirt accumulate).

Anyway, I know that my machine choice will either be a PC7424 or an UMD.

As far as products go, I've been thinking of either going with the Optimum (OP and OPS) or Menzerna (106FF, IP, FP) line to start with. It seems that the general consensus seems to be that Optimum is more user (and perhaps newbie) friendly. However, I have seen many pictures with stunning results from Menzerna products, but I am a little nervous about my abilities in dealing with any dusting from Menzerna products.

If there is any way I can compromise the ease of use of Optimum products with the results of Menzerna products while having very little to no dusting, that would be perfect.

If anyone could help me shed some light on which direction I should go, I'd appreciate it very much. Sorry for the long post!

I have some OP that I have tried and its good stuff. Its cheaper and it does what it is supposed to do. With that said I am moving onto SIP and 106FF this season to play with. I went with the OP first because I was learning with a rotory and the oils that are in the OP from what I remember reading the oils lasted a long time yeilding a good amout of time to work with. From what is sounds like you may be very happy with just the Optimum but you could always spend alittle more and enjoy the wonders of Menzerna.

that SIP and 106FF are products of menzerna??n what 's OP? since i am newbie to this forum n detailing stuff...do you have to use rotary for using those products or dual action polisher such Porter cable 7336 will do?

Menzerna SIP= Super Intensive Polish...Menzerna 106FF= A finishing Polish. OP= Optimum Polish. You DO NOT need to use a rotary when using any of these polishes, PC or UDM work just fine, but other things come into play, pads, paint hardness, etc.

A rotary just speeds the process up quite a bit...if you have a chance, learn to use one!
