Hello, I'm new to the board, and although I try to keep my vehicles looking pretty good, i'm sure my technique is not what it should be for the best results. I have a 2001 Ford Ranger and Honda Accord, both black. Both have very light swirls, nothing major. Right now i've only used 3M handglaze on the Ranger once, and it looked pretty good. Just looking for some direction,

Welcome, There is plenty of advice to be found here. I too have a 01 Ranger and love it. Mine is gold though so its a bit more forgiving in the swirl department. The things to watch on it are the plastic fender flares and door handles. They hold wax witha chalky residue if you get it on them. The moderator has put a bunch of articles on detailing on the www.autopia-carport.com site. You can get the basics there and if you have any specific questions you can post them here to be answered by the community. Most people here don't like Imperial hand glaze since it is just oil that fills the swirls and doesn't actually remove them. You should use a good swirl remover then follow with a coat of polymer sealant or carnuba to protect the finish. Most people here prefer, Blackfire, Klasse or Zaino. Not necessarily in that order. :D
 
Meguiars has probably the most comprehensive line of surface prep products-their Body Shop Pro line is outstanding. As far as waxes go, try some of the synthetics and the carnubas and see which ones you like best.
