An Optimum use of 2 gallons of water

My name is Mike
The geniuses on the Round Rock City Council decided to impose water restrictions last week in spite of already reaching the normal rainfall expected for a typical year. Even they kind of admitted there really wasn't an impending reason to do so. This means I can only "wash" a car on Sunday mornings before 10AM. Like they are going to stop me....

My buddy and bassist for the Capital Suspects, Karl's (AKA classicax) friend's new-to-him Barcelona Red Metallic 2011 Toyota Camry. Was dirty but in reasonable shape. The request was to OptiCoat it.

Started with the wheels and my Dupray Hill Injection, EcoTouch Wheel Cleaner (and Zep Orange for the tires), a little agitation, more steam, Sprayway Glass Cleaner and more steam with the final wipe.

Next up was the GDWM with ONR (some Opti OptiClean as a pre-soak). Then "claying" with the Nanoskin Autoscrub pad on the GG6 (cameo of the Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge – Medium Grade) with ONR used as clay lube. Then I could see the paint:

A little RUPES magic:

(Is this supposed to be hard, Joe? Post compound RUPES + Opti Finishing MF (original) + Opti HyperCompound -- no LSP. JK ;) )

Another ONR bath followed by OptiCoat 2.0 applied with the Optimum Opti Dual Pro Applicator. Tires were dressed with Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel and trim dressed with Optimum Opti-Seal.

And because Joe likes sun shots.

As the title indicated, less than 2 gallons of water used and not a hose in sight.

Thanks for viewing. Questions welcome.

Great job Mike.

Only 2 gallons of water on a OC wash / prep? That's just crazy. I waste that just getting ready to work... :rofl

Thanks Troy and Roshan.

No kidding.

I did try to make up for this bit of civil disobedience by drinking beer instead of water while I was working. If that is taken into account, the city might have come out ahead. ;)

great work esp with only 2 gallons of watert...im in kyle and we're in stage 2 water restrictions..they also tried to tell me i could only wash on sunday before 10am..i laughed

but i swear i read a long time ago that if you are a commercial car washing business you do not have to comply with the water restriction laws...but i could have been mistaken

i really do need to invest in a good steamer for wheels and tires..thats usually all i need water for unless the car is filthy of course

Thanks Todd and Brandt.

They have recycled water requirement here.

that is unfortunate. i just detailed two cars the other day in my driveway and the water was running down the street. hope i dont get a nice letter in the mail or something
i guess i will just have to tell them that the tar on that altima was a safety hazard for the owner and it had to be washed away ;)
