Amazing Transformation Must See!

These are the pics of the 3000GT VR4 mentioned in the other post covering the 350Z (See here) The pictures really dont do the work me and corey put into the car justice. We spent 12 hours in the direct sun polishing out the heavily oxidized swirled, stained, scratched and just neglected finish. The owner wanted it restored to a show car. I personally spent 6 hours on the hood and front fenders making sure the touch-ups were 120%. Corey did the interior, polished out the rest of the car, and glazed it. Finally the owners brother, the owner and corey all pitched in to finish off the wax step so we could go get the 350Z ready for the same show. This car really was a highlight i think for both me and corey, knowing the condition that it was in, and then turning it around in one day, and winning an award of excellence at the show!! Mongoose - on the hood, those things are just flat enough that i could take the rotary and the pc over it without any damage. As for the side flares, we ahd to do that whole panel on each side by hand, because they were re-painted (with enamel paint)and the rotary would have chewed it up and spit it out!



As for the hood chips, we washed the hood, and gave it a once over with SSR3, then i wetsanded pretty much the whole thing to attempt to highlight all of the chips. I then used small dabber brushes to touch a bit of paint on each chip. (i used like 20 or 30 brushes, they are disposable and cheap). After i let the paint sit for a couple min, i gave it 2-3 passes with 1500 grit, then i touched it one more time with paint to ensure even fill. I then took the 1500, followed by the 2k grit, and sanded the whole hood back to flat and even. Then the rotary came out with SSR3x2, followed by DACP on the rotary, and then dacp on the pc with a white pad. and the voila they are gone. It took an incredible ammount of time! Since the car was being given to us to use in the show, i didn't charge him the full value of the job, it would have normally cost him $350-$400, but he paid $175, and the use of his car for the day.



The 350Z in the other post didn't pay a dime (that is because we didn't have to do the chips and such)

I dk if I would've gone that serious with it, but for a car show I guess you have to :)
 
Eric - For the hood, i used SSR3, 1500 grit, 2000 grit, ssr3, dacpx2, VM, #16



For the rest of the car, we used dacp(rotary), dacp(PC), VM and #16. The tires have bold and brite on them, the glass was IG and VM. Oh, and the wheels have collinite on them. The day after i QD'd it with WAUD diluted 3:1.



Sean - I went that far only because we had to. The owner had just picked the car up, and he is a real good guy. He wanted it in good condition so that he could take it to this show, and out to all of the local meets.
