Alternatives to Prepsol?

Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and or other solvents will suspend waxes and silicones, and then re-deposit them; this can be avoided by adding 10% d-limonene (P21S Total Auto Wash) to the dilute IPA solution ...

That's good info there :xyxthumbs

I'm still just using PrepWash for this though....

Wow, blast from the past, glad to see the thread is still discussable. I'm using mostly Prep Wash and IPA in my LSP removal arsenal these days.

TOGWT,

I'm surprised you didn't mention TOL's "Akrya Klean" formerly known as Hi-Temp Prep-all. I purchased it recently based on your advice and threads on safe solvents to remove polish oils etc.

The "key" to knowing if a product is truly safe for regular exposure to and use by humans, is on the label of the product usually, however, some companies "sort of mis-inform" so look up the MSDS and read it carefully.

Key toxic components in these types of products are xylene, toulene, methal eythal keotone and such.

The "xylene" is the one used in most products to give it almost instant cleaning abilities, and is toxic by inhalation, skin absorbsion.

I have not read a current label on the Kent or some other "acrysol" products, however, the last time was 3 years ago and all that are marketed in the states, under various similar names, by various companies, contained a percentage of xylene.

People like it because it works really quick, and I understand that, even have a quart of pure xylene in my fire proof chemical cabinet. When I use it, I wear chemical proof gloves and put on my painting respirator.

But then, I also have methal ethyal keotone, acetone, various paint thinners and reducers, etc in my supply of solvents, just very careful with them and keep them in the fire proof metal cabinet when stored.
