I need to detail my Mom's bimmer next weekend. It'a 1997 with Boston green metallic paint. In very bright sublight, you can see light - meduim grade swirls. In any other light the paint looks flawless. My Dad's alero gave me a real workout, and I think the SMR for dark cars will take multiple apps on the bimmer. If I were to use the 3M rubbing compund, would I be going too far? The product description makes this stuff sound like a last resort before you repaint. Will it strip alot of my clear off? I guess I'm just being lazy, but I'd rather do one pass over the car instead of 5. Since this a dark colour, I'll have to do multiple coats of SMR or AIO on the whole thing in order to get the results I want.

So to all of you that have used it, tell me, should I get it?

Thanks all! :)

Maybe try the 3M FI2 first, it is great for medium swirls. You can always move to a more abrasive product if needed. Its best to start low and move you way up.

Good Luck!!
