All Purpose Cleaners

I'm looking for a good all purpose cleaner. (Like Meguiar's APC)

Can you name some all purpose cleaners you have used, what you have used them on, how well the worked, and if they caused any damage?

Thank you!

I've used APC+ on tires, interior vinyl, carpets, engine bays, wheel wells, on the whole car to strip wax, and I spray it under the vehicle to aid in rinsing salt off. I've never noticed it cause any damage.

Sorry for the question within a question thread Intel, but have you used any of Pro's APCs? What did you think of them?

The only one they have that I have used that would be considered an APC would be Green Nitro. I've used it for tires and engines before and it works well on those areas. Doesn't work well on wheels though as it doesn't work well on brake dust.

I've never tried it on interior stuff at all.

I may explore it some more and might use stuff from them but would like to see what other APCs are out there that I could possibly get cheaper.

The have some other APCs but I have not used them. I am going to look into them though.

How much are you getting APC for?

I've read good things here about Eimann Fabrik Hi Intensity.. 20 dollars for one gallon on CMA and they have more description about it. They said you can use it full strength for degreasing and tough stains, EFHI:water 1:1 for tires, wheels, convertible tops, 1:3 for polished aluminum and interior carpet/fabric.

I thought about using 3M's APC. On the surface it seems pretty expensive, $101.97 for a 5 gallon container or $87.04 for 4, 1 gallon bottles. Thing is, this stuff is super concentrated. You dilute 15:1 for degreasing and 30:1 for interior cleaning. That's 1 or 2 ounces per 32 ounce spray bottle. If you split the two ratios you could get 160, 32 oz bottles at 15:1 and 320, 32 oz bottles at 30:1 out of the 5 gallons. If my math is right on this and correct me if I'm wrong, 3M's APC turns out to be pretty cheap.

I use APC+. 8 bucks for a gallon, and I dilute 9:1. water to APC+.

I use it on everything. I even filled a squirt bottle with it so I could save money by not buying soap anymore (kidding kidding).

I like it!

I have used Valugards Omni APC for everything and its excellent. Never has caused any damage and I feel safe using it. I bought the 303 APC but havent really had a chance to use it.

HellrotCi: The 3M products should have a better price from a dealer. Were the prices you quoted from the 3M website?

Yeah, I haven't bothered to check for a local supplier of 3M stuff. My local Pro distributor makes their own line of APC so I'm going to use their stuff, for now.

Stoner and zep are great all purpose cleaners. These are my 2 favorites.

What all do you use Stoner's on and how well does it work?

Where can I order Zep? Actually, I don't think I've heard of Zep before. How does it compare to Stoner?

Hey Guys!

I am not so sure about the Zep APC?? I thought I read a warning on the label a while back when I looking at it in Home Depot. It said not to get it on automotive paint. That scares me as any over spray may drift onto the paint causing who knows what.

Is Simple Green really that bad?? Or has someone had real problems with the product? Any examples or stories out there???:nixweiss

I used Simple Green to clean the wheels on my '97 Park Ave and after a year or so the finish was trashed. I was buying Simple Green in the spray bottles so I assumed, however wrong I may have been, that I could use it straight out of the bottle.

Does anybody know if APCs made for automotive use, like Meguiar's or 3M, are more chemically friendly for automotive use than so called household types of APCs?

Cleaners... EFHI, ZEP, 3M et al. Isn't it pretty much personal choice? I have tried several, most recently was turned on to a cleaner called Cherry Bomb made by Stevens Car Care.

While I've only used it for 60 days, thus far I'm impressed. mix it for various applications, i.e; Mix 1-1 for HD cleaner, 1-32 for Glass.

This stuff came highly recommended and I've not found any reason to dispute that referral to date. Smells great too!

Another EF Hi-Intensity user here. I find I can dilute it quite a bit and still get good results. If you want something that is TOTALLY safe for automotive paint, but still works OK, there's P21S' Total Auto Wash (their version of citrus/orange based cleanser). CMA has 1 litre bottles, Motorhead.net has 5 litre refills. It's been around for ages; time-tested and all that. Sorta pricey, but I keep some around.

I've mostly used the Meg's APC+ with very good results. Dilute 4:1 for wheels, tires, engines; 10:1 for interior carpet, fabric, vinyl; the 64:1 for dewaxing. Haven't had any problems at all but I do sometimes worry about it (especially on wheels)...it's very strong stuff.

I recently started using AutoInt Omni APC and it works well too. As instructed by a now banned Autopian , I dilute 10:1 for everything and is 100% safe to use anywhere on the vehicle even as a pre-soak for bugs. Can mix a little stronger if needed for engines, heavy break dust etc. I feel a little more at ease using the Omni but I've not used it on enough tough spots to really compare it to the Meg's APC+.

I use Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity Cleaner for my wheel wells and am happy with it. Spray with water, then with EF H-IC, agitate with a brush, hose off, spray with EF Black Opal. Good results!
