Air compressors

Mr. Clean

The Man Who Knows The Man
Looking for an air compressor. Is there anything to definitely stay away from ... or something that is just outstanding?

Criteria:

O Less than $200
O Primary uses: inflation, blowing out interiors, filling a portable air tank.
O I think I want an oil lubricated model
O I won't completely rule out the possibility of the rare/light usage of a nailer (not a framer or anything like that) or impact wrench.

I have a Husky from Home Depot and hate it, it is a pain to get running after it isn't used for while. My daughter wanted something inflated and I have not used it in 3 months, I went to start it and nothing, there is a reset switch that you have to hit and it will run for a minute then stop, until it warms up. It is stored in a heated garage.

My father has a Craftsman and he doesn't have any trouble with it. I had to use his the other day, plugged it in and turned it on, started right up.

I have a large Ingersoll Rand and have not had any issues in almost 3 years. I know $200 is your budget but the extra $$$ is well worth having a larger sized tank IMO. ;)

Just bite the bullet and by something over $400 thats equiped the way you want. Little compressors just dont cut it. Find one that could be either 110 or 220, its usually made better. (Ive burnt up a 220 volt motor on my 30 gallon upright Vraftsman Pro compressor, tried a 25 year old motor and it wouldnt pull it, then got the 110/220 motor off the compressor that just blew up. It WAS wired for either voltage so the compressor could be used either way if needed now. It is being run on 220 right now and I have the new replacement motor as backup. (luckily they both have same compressor and motor mounts so motors interchange.) Just buy quality air compressors!!!!
