Aio Question!!!!!!!

Ok so it was brought to my attention through another thread posted just b 4 this one that some people like to moisen up their pads b 4 actually polishing the car! Wut types or sprays can u use and wut would people recommend?!?!

wut are you sayin? Just out of curiosity, is it hard to write like that? Does it take concentration? I only ask because I was just joking to a friend about how hard it was to do that. My little sister writes like that and it drives me nuts.

Anyway, AIO works better for me when I apply it with a damp pad. What I usually do is not wet the pad first. Instead I just do a halfassed job at drying the car and I leave extra water around to use while I'm applying it. That works well for hand application as well as PC application. Hopefully that clears it up 4 u. lol

When i used AIO my last time with a meguiars yellow pad also spritzed w/water, it was ruined. I washed the pad out when i was done and stored it in a ziplock bag. I took it out the other day to use it and the 2 layers of pad were falling apart and the foam was disintegrated

I believe the directions tell you to spread the product with a damp cloth or pad. I use plain water and never had a problem with meguiars yellow pads.

Whats the difference between distilled water and regular tap water? U nderstand there are all sorts of chemicals in tap water, but what do they do to distilled water that makes it better?

Distillates [: a substance that has been distilled to remove impurities] As in petroleaum distillates, distilled water, etc

Good answer, but in laymens terms it means there's nothing in the water but water. Essentially it's pure water. I'm not sure how most places distill water, maybe through reverse osmosis (sp?) but from what I understand the best way to distill water is to boil it in a closed loop system so that it evaporates and then condensates on a seperate surface and can be collected. Whatever is left behind, the salts, minerals, flouride, etc. is all the impurities to which we refer. It's the same as when you leave a pot of water boiling on the stove 'til all the water is gone and you're just left w/ that gunk in the bottom of the pan.

Ideally, distilled water is the best water for washing of pretty much anything or even drinking but as you can see it's kind of a pita process to produce it yourself and it costs money to buy the stuff obvisously. This is why some of our more sophisticated autopia brethren use water softeners though. That way you don't get mineral water deposit left behind on the car if you should have water dry on the paint surface! :(

Distilling is when you heat up the liquid to the point where it boils and then collect the vapor (steam, in the case of water), and then cool it to condense it back into liquid form. You leave behind things that otherwise wouldn't vaporize, like minerals and solids. Tap water has minerals in it (more or less depending on your water source), which leaves spotting when the water droplets evaporates from your car.

In this case, I don't think it would make much of a difference whether or not you use distilled water. You'll be using very little water, since you're mostly using aio, and you're not letting the water bead up and dry on the paint.

Cool it went from AIO to tap waterr! god i love this forum!! :rofl

Well it was still on topic.. it had to do with whether tap or distilled water can be used with aio. And again i reiterate that it shouldn't matter, but if you really want to be conservative that you can use distilled water. Considering that you can get a gallon for under a dollar, you might as well , as long as you don't have to go out of your way to get it. :)

Your name is Ken Miller? I had a professor by that name; he was one of the best lecturers (also one of our most famous faculty members) I had.
