AIO Advice

I have a Jet Black 2001 BMW 530i and I need help picking an AIO. I need something that corrects (not just chemical clean) and has decent durability as this is my "sits outside" daily driver. This paint is uber difficult to maintain and I just don't have time for two steps...if I get the DA out I have a limited window before my wife barks at me to help with the kids...so that means either LSP or a polishing step, not both.

Here is a list I am trying to choose from but am open to any suggestions:

Optimum GPS

M66

D151

ZAIO?

Because of the soft and finicky nature of Jet Black, should I focus on durability and ability to finish with less dusting over ability to correct? I will be using Meg's G110 as the DA.

Thanks!

D151 is a decent all around product, but I'm sure you can buy a couple extra minutes to top it with a spray wax like DG Aquawax before your wife gets too crazy.

I have been using GPS recently and it is great to work with. Here are some 50/50s on Infiniti obsidian black paint using 1 pass of GPS.

Thanks guys. I might get away with a quick spray wax wipe down to boost durability, so good call JPostal. Rcrew and Fallguy, GPS looks pretty compelling...how's durability vs D151? Which is easier to work, and what pads should I use?

It would be intersting to see those areas with a IPA wipedown.

Sorry, can't speak to durability as I haven't used D151 much. I believe Stokdgs has more experience with it. I will PM him and see if he can provide some insight.

I think pad selection will depend on how soft your paint is, you might just have to experiment. I would think you could get away with a MF pad on *most* paints.

IPA wipedown on an AIO product would be detrimental to its longevity.

No doubt about that. Just interesting to see how much cut vs filling was done in that scenario.

The paint is the easy to marr BMW Jet Black...that being said, which pad with the AIO? I have the Uber 5.5 in pads from Detailer's Domain: black, blue, green, and orange.

I prefer less filler and more killer as well...Dan, I take your point and wanted to know what you would suggest for AIO and pad?

Jet black is such a pain to finish down. I'd probably try GPS with the polishing pad and if it didn't finish out well enough, the "wax application" pad.

I'd also try Optimum's spray wax to really boost the longevity of whatever AIO you use. It's a wipe on, wipe off product and has nice durability. You could use that as a drying aide after each wash to boost protection between touch-ups with GPS. I was so impressed that I bought a gallon of it.

*If* you're going to use the spray wax in conjunction with an AIO, I'm a big fan of HD SPEED. Its low durability will require a spray wax though for a car that's outside 24/7.
