Ahhhhhhhhhhh, Mom got a new Car-It's black-I'm scared!!-Questions on Clear "Bra's"

2002 Chevrolet Corvette
Well, Dad metioned last week that he wanted to get Mom a newer Acura RL (previously had 98 SE). We talked it over, then he told Mom-sold it to her gently-she's not as into this as we are. :hah

Well we started looking on the Net for local dealers, the first one he wanted was sold. Mom had mentioned she wanted a darker color this time-well she got it. It's a Black on Black-2004 RL with 8,000 miles on it.

I plan to detail Sunday-Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's black, I'll need to polish every 45 minutes. :hah

My question-It has a clear bra/mask/protector on certain parts of the car. I assume I can't polish with the SSRs, but the dealer told my father wax was ok on it. So I'll probably polish all the areas without the protector, then seal and wax the entire car-that sound good?

you can polish the clear bra. Place some masking tape along the edge where it meets the paint. Ppolish just up to the edge of the tape, you can even use a PC and some of the SSR's, perhaps #1 and #2 only. The wax it.

Really? I would think the polish would be too abrasive? Being that it's just clear plastic I would think I could go through it?
 
Nope, most PPF's (paint protection films) have a high puncture rating. The 3M film has a clear coat so it can be polished. Others ppf's can also be polished but not with abrasive products.

You can also try some Plexus applied with a soft pad and the PC or Cyclo.
 
Well, being that it was already on mom's car I don't know exactly what brand film it is-maybe they told my dad-I'll have to ask him. We'll see-I know I'm doing SSR1 or 2.5 on the rest of the car-just can't decide if I want to risk going over the film with any abrasive right now.
 
SSR1 is baby smooth, not very abrasive at all. If the film is on th elower bumper section try it in a unseen portion first just to give you peace of mind.

I've polished my clearbra with SSR1 with no ill effects. But I notice it will mar easier than paint when washing. I just got some Plexus and plan to try that on it. I have the Llumar brand.

Thanks for your imput. I'm polishing tomorrow morning, and still a bit undecided. I may just seal and wax the clear bra areas this time, just to be on the safe side. We'll see.

Well, the polishing is done-EX is drying on the paint right now. I did polish the clear bra with SSR1, nothing bad has happened yet. LOL
