Age old question; swirl removal by hand

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone here can make any helpful suggestions.

I've got a metallic black Audi TT which has some swirls/micromarring around the rear spoiler.

I've used Meguiar's scratch x several times but it never removes them, Audi paint is a PITA!

Whilst I might have to accept that filling/hiding the swirls may be the best option, I'd rather diminish/remove them if possible.

This will need to be done by hand [I've got a feeble random orbital polisher but it's really only good for wax removal].

My arsenal currently is all Meg's stuff:

Scratch X

DC1

DC2

#7

NXT liquid wax

#21

Has anyone any other suggestions of products that may be more successful by hand or could suggest an applicator with more cutting power than the Meg's ones, maybe Sonus' SFX pads?

While I'm always saying I can't get my Audis pefect without the rotary, I *do* remove scratches from behind the doorhandles by hand so I guess it's a matter of how much time and effort you expend on the job. Working by hand:

I use 1Z Ultra/Extra for the majority of the correction. It's one aggressive product that will break down OK by hand/PC. Once I remove most of the marring with that, I follow up with 1ZPP and then again with something milder. Note that it can take a long time, and I don't mean just half an hour for one spot ;)

No Meg's products I can think of that'll do what the Ultra/Extra can do. The PP is sorta like a slightly stronger version of Meg's #80, maybe between #80 and #83.

Your Scratch-X is just too mild for the hard Audi clear. The other products you listed are all functinally nonabrasive (well, the Deep Crystal Step #1 does have some very mild abrasives but they're way too fine to do anything on the Audi).

For by-hand work on Audis, the 1Z polishes are the only way to go IMO.

Thanks for the input mate, I did have a feeling that the Scratch X just didn't have enough power. I'll investigate the 1Z polishes.

Meguiars #80 by hand will remove light swirls, but maybe not on an Audi.

Didn't do what I'd expected on the A8, even by Cyclo (green pads). I followed with an AIO-type product (the old Pinnacle Creme Glaz) and a lot of not-too-bad stuff reappeared :(

Received my 1Z Ultra and PP products yesterday and had a play on our other vehicle today. They're an absolute delight to use and even a few seconds of rubbing got out some light scratches out of our Skoda Octavia [VAG paint again]. Looking forward to using them in anger on the TT in the next week!

Glad (but not surprised ;) ) to hear you like the 1Z stuff. See how it works on the Audi. Having done the Skoda, you'll see what a difference the hard Audi clear makes!
