After lots of thinking, I finally did it, 2011 Jetta gets OptiCoat

I'm sure it had an effect. The grime is extremely noticeable until you wash a section, then it becomes very apparent. On a darker color I'm not sure you'd notice as much.
 
Another quick update, we just got some snow and ice, about an inch or so. Amazing how easy the snow and ice comes off the car with Opticoat. Yet another benefit! The other car, even though recently waxed, wasn't nearly as easy to clean off. Best yet, after removing the snow, it seems the dirt went with it and the car looks like it was just washed!

Ya know, I had previously posted how I didn't really appreciate the OptiCoat on my Tahoe's wheels, but I gotta say that after doing a few DI-rinses to clean off winter [crap] it sure *does* shed everything better than anything I can think of.
 
Nice post Dan. I have been on the fence about Opti Coat as well. As for more depth, would applying a nuba over top of it have a negative effect on the Opti Coat?

I am glad to hear that. I am on the fence about opti-coat myself but might just get it.

I'm not sure, but I'm going to find out. The nuba will probably will wash off at the next rain though.

On the wheels, I use UPGP and it really helps the brake dust slide off and not accumulate as quickly - and clean off easily with a mitt and suds (no harsh wheel cleaner needed).



How about opti-coat in regards to holding dust between washes and ease of cleaning it off the wheels?
 
I opticoated a 335 BMW wheels...they are 4 months old now, and nothing sticks to the wheels...soap and water only and you can eat off them!

I had previously posted that OptiCoat wasn't anything special on my Tahoe's wheels, no better than my usual FK1000P (with FK425 at every wash) approach. BUT... that was back in nice weather when I was being my usual Autopian self about keeping it nice.



With winter here and other things to spend my time on, I'm being, uhm...less than Autopian about it, and I've changed my tune- OptiCoat is simply amazing. It sheds everything time after time and resists all kinds of potent cleaners. Just an aggressive rinsing is often enough to make the wheels "clean enough for the SUV in the winter".
 
Accumulator, I was very skeptical too, it all seemed to good to be true. I though people were just exaggerating (imagine that!), but the dirt shedding abilities are for real. As posted before, the most amazing thing is how easily tar comes off with soap and water.

No surprise here; my dealer got some *awful* grease-mess on one of my wheel barrels when lubing the Tahoe ("take the wheels off next time, OK?" :rolleyes: ) that would've normally required something like 3M Adhesive Remover. With the Opticoat it cleaned off with just a little diluted APC (which didn't dent the coating either).
 
OK, between these outstanding results on wheels and my desire to stop spot greening corrosion on nooks and crannies of emblems, I'll be biting the bullet sometime soon and will get myself some OC to try it out for myself.
 
Does anyone here apply opti coat to older vehicles say 6 years old or so? I know it seems to really be a new car type deal more often than not, just curious though..
 
I love my Opti-Coated car and I still apply wax to it if I know I'll have a week or more of nice weather and the QD's will give you some nice pop if you choose.



Plus, ONR leaves a great finish over OC on its own. I can't wait to try ONR with wax when my current gallon of ONR runs out.



Also, the marr and scratch resistance is nice. My girlfriend's Altima isn't Opti-Coated and the damn cat leaves claw marks all over it. They're noticeable because we rescued the cat after I recently polished and OCW'd her car so it *was* looking great. The same cat often sits on my car and aside from paw prints, there is no damage due to claw marks. I attribute this to the Opti-Coat.



The dirt shedding properties are insane. I OC'd her wheels and it's about the only part of her car that stays clean because she's a home health physical therapist and drives down dirt roads daily to visit her patients. Keeping her car reasonably clean is like :hairpull .

I'll blame my euro roots. We love wagons. And yes, it's gotten some track time, went out with the P-car club and two Porsche drivers went home that weekend knowing a diesel grocery getter was faster than they were :D



 
Sweet video! Oh no, I actually prefer the wagon for both of us. She's a minivan mom, but I'm trying to break her away from that beast because I hate being seen in it. A VW wagon (Jetta/Passat) is really practical for room, pretty nicely equipped (i.e. leather) and gets great mileage. Dress it up with some nice wheels and you got a bad arse looking car. No flame, I really love these wagons too. Just a matter of time.....
