Advice sought on detailing new Jag XKR

Hi,

I'm going to be detailing my friends 1 month old silver Jaguar XKR this weekend (assuming the weather holds, as this is Ireland after all). I have a few questions regarding cleaning the paintwork, and any advice would be appreciated.

I've thinking of claying the car first with Claymagic, as the paintwork feels a bit rough on the doors especially.

Should I clay the whole car or just the areas I feel are contaminated ? Also; will the clay remove tar spots, or should I use a dedicated tar remover before claying ?

I have decided on Autoglym super resin polish followed by Autoglym extra gloss protection. Both readily available here, and recommended by Jag.

Should I use a paint cleaner like PPCL before the Super Resin, or do you think the clay will be enough. Also, Super Resin has a cleaner in it like Klasse AIO (but a bit weaker I think), so I am wondering if that would be negate the need for PPCL also.

Finally, does anyone know if you can put a Caranuba like Blitz over the Autglym Extra Gloss protection. (like you put it over Klasse SMG) ?

thanks

Yes, clay the whole car. There are likely surface contaminents that can't be seen. There's no harm in claying a section that feels OK, just be careful.

This is a judgement call. If you have PPCL you might as well try it on a section to see what happens. But on a one-month old car it may not be needed. Regardless, PPCL is a mild polish and it won't hurt the paint. You may want to compare the two products side-by-side on a panel and look for a difference.

I don't know anyone who's tried that but it's worth a shot to see the effects. Let us know how it goes after you're done.
