Advice on strippers

No no the pole type....

If I want to take a car down and eliminate all sealants, waxes etc, I've always used Dawn. Is there a better solution? I see some of the detailers use a CG citrus shampoo or the car pro eraser. Not to single these out. but is a dedicated product like these better than dawn?

I see a lot of people foaming with OPC mixed in ... now that Iron-X is part of my regiment, I find that does a really good job of stripping off sealants & waxes, if I need a boost I use OPC 3:1.

iron x will strip organic lsps somewhat but won't really touch sealants.

OPC at 3:1 sprayed right on a panel before using your regular soap or dawn, always works for me

I also use Dawn and the only difference I see with it and CG Citrus is with Dawn you might have foam 2x's. The cost is the only reason I went back to Dawn. I have been putting a little Power Clean in with the Dawn for foaming.

The new BF APC is specifically stated for this use. Add 1oz to 4 gallons of your normal wash solution. Who doesn't need some APC in stock for other uses also.

Dont get one that tells you her whole life story ughhhhh I hate that.

Damn right I didnt bother to read this thread, I already know the answer :lol2:

Don't put too much money into them because you will get less and less until you pay more. Sorry I had to say that because of the title :D.

Last year I finally got around to trying CG Citrus after always using Dawn to strip waxes or sealants. I wasn't too impressed. I used a heavy dose of the CG stuff (you can supposedly dilute it quite a bit) and found it to be, at best, equal to Dawn - but for a lot more money. Of course, there are some out there who swear that dish soap doesn't strip wax. (Remember the TID forum anyone?) I think it does a pretty good job.

Chemical guy Citrus wash and gloss @ 1 oz per gallon. If that dosent work add 1-2 oz of a paint safe APC to your wash bucket.

I will use a garden hose foamer with an ounce of soap (either CG maxi suds or glossworkz), an ounce of Meg's APC+, and the rest with water and soak the entire vehicle at a 2oz/gal ratio setting on the foamer. Then I will 2BM hand wash with an ounce of APC added to my soap bucket. That usually takes care of any lsps on the car. The only time I ever try to strip wax is if I'm doing a 1 or more stage polish job and I always clay and IPA wipedown before doing so anyway. So no LSP stands a chance with that regimine.

I don't see the big deal with stripping an lsp before polishing anyhow. I do it, but if you don't then clay as usual before polishing, will your pads really get gummed up with at most a few microns worth of lsp? I think not

I prefer to strip a vehicle down for the sake of seeing the true condition of the paint, you never know what the owner or previous detailers have put on there.

I accidently dropped my buffing towel into my wash bucket one day that was filled with dawn and water. And you can see the wax coming out of it. I believe it does strip wax, just not as good as a citrus wash would. Anyway, back to the strippers... =D

I was a Dawn user for quite awhile... But I have switched to CG CW&G or CW&C. As some have stated they are at least equal if not better in my experience. On most nuba based finishes a good wash in one of these soaps will strip away the wax. On and fresh or heavily toped sealant finish I use a little APC added to the mix; as I have found that a good sealant can stand up to almost anything.

Based on price I feel that the CG CW&G or CW&C are superior to Dawn when bought by the gallon. I have found that the amount of dawn needed for a stripping and the fact that it really only has one roll in my arsenal makes CG CW&G or CW&C a better option.

Also I find that the lubricicity of CG CW&G or CW&C to be much better than Dawn.
