Advice on engine detail

If you do any LT1 powered vehicles be SURE to cover the opti-spark system or it will fail if it gets water on/in it.. They are the most suseptable to water of anything I've known!

I just detailed a TSX yesterday at the shop and you have nothing to worry about. You don't need to cover up anything.

cool.

your statement also includes you spraying down the battery with the garden hose too? i think i may skip rinsing the battery altogether, and just towel clean it. but, just wanted some clarification on your statement.

Again we have never had an problems with batteries, many batteries we are actually cleaning off corrosion that has built up all around the battery. We just ordered a new digital camera today so I can post some pics next week.

OMG!! Yesterday, I made my second attempt on cleaning my engine bay of Toyota Camry 1995 Model. I used a lot of water on every part of my diesel engine bay, not covered anywhere. It worked fine but today, when I start my car, the battery indicator is turned on and the Distributor is gone. It cost me a lot to replace. So, b/4 I deatil my another car, please advise me which areas are not to hose down with water in Diesel Engines and in Gasoline Engines.

Some said Gasoline Engines Bays are more problemsome with water as it has plugs and more. So, Please help.

From my experiences, a garden hose just doesnt have the pressure to spray water into unwanted places, even electrical stuff. I never cover anything and ive never once had a single problem. I spray it all down liberally with a good degreaser ( I personally use castrol super clean or purple power) Just be careful with castrol, it is VERY strong stuff, try not to get it on the exterior paint. Im just speaking from my personal experiences. Your experience may vary.

EDIT: After some additional thought, please dont use castrol super clean...stuff is way to powerful and if you get any overspray on your paint, it could damage the clear if left on too long. Purple power is good though. I us it for an all around APC. Tires/wheels/engine/wheel wells, etc. etc.
