Acid Rain Removal

I have acid rain spots all over the tops of my car. I tried Scratch X with not much improvement. Any good products out there that I can get it off by PC without having to wetsand?

Especially if the acid rain spots have appeared in recent history, I would try to eliminate further reactivation of any acid remaining in the composition of the paint by using the Valugard (Auto Int)ABC decontamination system or the Finish Kare equivalent.

After that, if you haven't tried using a PC, sure go for it. You could pick from the usual menu of compounds and polishes discussed here. I hope it comes out. If not, you might have to step up to a rotary, and, if that fails, yes, wetsanding may have to be an option. If you find yourself at the point of pondering the wetsanding option, keep in mind that the thickness of your clear coat is going to be reduced enough to take caution every time you put a buffer to it from that point on.

I'd put strong emphasis on the "watch the clearcoat thickness" part of BillD's post.

Often, acid rain etching is so deep that completely removing it will require taking off a *lot* of clear. More than I would take off of a regularly driven vehicle. Better imperfect paint than a repaint ;)
