About to Start Detailing, but Have a Question

If I compound with the polishing pad, can I apply the glaze with the finishing pad?? I only bought one polishing pad as I was planning on using the orange cutting pad for the compound.

Also, how long do I spend with the compound on each section?

You can apply a glaze with a finish pad or by hand, but if you're using VM as your glaze it can also be applied with a polish pad since it has light abrasives in it.

It's hard to put a time on how long to compound each section because there are many variables involved, plus I never really time myself per panel or section. Just work the polishes like Accumulator described and you'll soon get the feel for it. Depending on the condition of your paint you may have to go over some areas more than once to remove the defects. Just remember to use a fast PC speed (5-6) but slow arm speed when polishing.

Just let me verify these last things:

1) Work in the compound and 4-5 or 5-6, using a figure 8 motion, on small/medium sections, using a slow arm motion.

2) Work the compound until it changes to almost powder, but not till completely dry

3) Wipe off excess product with MF and Water

4) Glaze/polish at 4-5 speed?

I would do:

1 - speed 6 - this is the most important process that you have to **perfect** - work the product in, but what that is will depend on your paint. (soft/hard)

Once the paint is perfect, all other products can be PCd pretty fast - they don't have to be *WORKED* into the paint (if that makes sense)

Check out the video on http://www.adamspolishes.com/ you will see how fast Adam is going with the PC. you do that after the paint is corrected. Hope it helps you.

PRACTICE!!!!!
