About pads...

I have bought some Meguiars buffing pads previously in the past. However, when using them on my buffer, they seem to start tearing around where they velcro on to the backing plates ( I think thats what they are called ).

Why do they do this, they start to do this after not very much use...am I doing something around I am not really aggressive with it or anything, I do not see why they are ripping.

Any comments would be helpful,

Thanks!

Meguiar's pads are good pads except for the bad velcro backing that seperates from the pad after moderate use.

You won't have that problem with the Lake Country pads that have the black velcro backing. I have never had a problem with them.

I agree with troy what been my only complaint about the Meguiars pads is the velcro backing. I really liked using my burgandy pad, but I am affraid to use it now because the backing seems week.

If the problem is the foam tearing, then you are most likely using too large of a backing plate. If you don't have some of the Velcro on the pad extending past the backing plate, the backing plate can/will cut into the foam when any pressure is applied to the outer circumference of the pad.
The Velcro separation on Meguiar's pads has been an issue for quite some time. Supposedly, Meguiar's has improved the adhesive, but I quit buying them so I can't comment on whether or not they are any better.
One thing that is very hard on the Velcro is removing the pads by just grabbing the edge and pulling them off. I try to make sure I have a grip on some of the Velcro itself so the adhesive doesn't have so much pulling on it. A bit of a nuisance, but it works for me.

FWIW, 3M Trim Adhesive will glue the Velcro back on a pad if it becomes partly detached. Never had the Velcro and pad completely separate so I don't know how good the 3M would work in that case.
