AAMCO’s Power Purge Plus Transmission Flush & Filter Change?

Anyone get this service done? I see the commercials. I believe it is $99.

If you guys like it, how often would you get it done?

Just curious.

I have found transmission shops to be the biggest ripoff there is. I wouldn't let them touch my car unless I had to (i.e., unless the trans is already shot). If you want maintenance done on your trans., I would go to your trusted mechanic for it.

I had a fluid change done once at a trans shop that I trusted. They told me the trans was "getting tired". Sure enough, a few months later, the trans started acting up...I was amazed at their expertise at predicting problems, but I decided to drop the pan and change the filter again...and lo and behold! My GM car had a screen in it (like a Ford's) instead of a real filter. I guess they must make them special for the trans shops, along with a script ("yeah...she's gettin' tired..."). I put a proper filter in and changed the fluid and never had another problem with that trans.

a flush is not an issue. as long as things have been maintained well then there should be no issue. I've had them done on both my cars with well over 100K

the horror stories with flushes comes in when the person is trying to save a neglected tranny by flushing it. Generally when people do that the tranny wsa going to fail totally soon anyway, but they still end up blaming it on the flush.

In general though, follow your manufacturers recomendation. I think most cars require a tranny drain and fill every 30-50K. This changes upto 75% of the fluid in the tranny, so if you want to do a flush I'd do it less often then that.

A flush is a joke. You want to know why? Becuase all they do is flush out the old fluid and fill up with new fluid. Yeah thats right. They dont change the filter which is still loaded with crap and even more so after the flush. My friend owns a mechanic shop and he strait up told me that it was a gimmick to make quick money.

I wouldnt take any car to that company. I know of 5 people who took their car there, and had it fubar'd one way or another, either repairs or replacement of the tranny, and they either were not repaired to OEM standards, or when they were replaced, they still were messed up.

It depends. Many import automatics don't have a replaceable filter so the recommended service is a drain and fill.

However, I'd never let AAMCO, aka All Automatics Must Come Out touch my car. They've been sued numerous times for ripping off customers. Cottman's too.

Which one is it that says "half of our customers don't need a new transmission!"? I always finish the line for them "...but they get one anyway!"

got some links you can share? Aamco has saved me money when my (former) mechanic was going to start shotgunning parts...

Depending on your mileage, if you do a regular drop drain and refill a flush is not worth it. And if you have done this since the beginning thats all you will need not a flush. As far as taking it to AAmco no way they are sketchy. As much as I hate to say it take it to the dealership, it costs more but you will get higher quality parts and more know how. Depending on your mechanical ability and the vehicle do it yourself it saves money and you feel better about it. Just my .02
