Aaahhhh!!! How Do I Get Rid Of This??

Well a couple of weeks ago I got into my first accident ever... took me all of 13 months.



Anyway I took my car to the highest ranked repair shop in Indiana: Harvey's Collision, in Westfield. I was satisfied with their work originally. I had to have the front and rear bumpers, and the hood replaced and repainted, on my 2005 MINI Cooper S. Being a perfectionist, and made sure with the owner of the place that I wanted nothing short of a "from the factory" paint job. I picked it up in the dark, living 3 hours away in South Bend I really had no choice. Having cruddy/cloudy winter weather in IN, I really hadn't noticed until yesterday, when I saw the sun for like the first time in a month, It looks like they took a rag went and dropped it in the street came back and wiped my hood and front bumper down with it... I am scared to do anything for a couple of reasons... but something has to be done... I am afraid because according to the shop the paint is still "curing" I don't know this to be a fact or not... and I am afraid to buff it with my PC 7424 because I don't honestly know how many clear coats they put on...

So what should I do? If I want to buff it what products should I use? Also what in your opinions is the best wax/sealant (zaino, fk, etc..) for a red car?

Hello Mike, from the look of your pics it looks like moderate swirling but nothing your pc and a good polish wont take care of. May I recommend Poorboys SSR2.5 with a polishing pad. It is very PC user friendly and will get the job done. As far as protection goes I think Zaino would definately look great on your red paint and also cant beat the durability. Hope this helps a bit :wavey

I have also recently had some repair work done to my car. They recommended I wait 90 days before using and wax or sealant on the new paint to give it time to cure and for the paint to "flash" off any gases (not sure if I am wording that part right).

I know it's hard to wait that long... I see the swirls and want to take my PC to is soooo badly!

But in the end, the wait will be better for your paint.

You should be able to polish your car without waiting as long as the polish you use doesn't leave any protection behind.



Meguiars also makes Speed Glaze which has light cutting action and is supposed to leave "breathable" protection behind so you can lightly polish and protect a newly painted car.

I'd caution you that just because a product says "safe for fresh paint" doesn't make it so. There are so many different paint systems out now, with different cure times, hardnesses, etc. that you just can't make a blanket statement like that.



Always ask the painter, they will know what system they used, and what options within that system. If they say wait 90 days, I'd wait 90 days. There are definitely some paints still on the market that need that long. Of course, there are also paints that can be sanded, polished, whatever within a couple of hours of spraying. Thus the advice to ask the painter.
