A warning on "paint wrinkle"!!!

I did that once on a Black Saturn Bumper(Front). Luckily I was in the bumper painting business at the time and was trying to remove a scratch on the bumper when it did that. And it was a huge wrinkle too! Well...lesson learned, Saturn clear very soft. So I just repainted on the spot.
 
I posted about it before but this thread would be a good place to mention it again.

If you ever polish a C4 Corvette the rear portion that holds the tail lights and is about 3 inches of the rear deck is made of hard rubber and can not dissipate the heat.
If you put a rotary to it you will BURN THE PAINT.

Rule #1 when polishing paint.

Be ready to repaint.

What kind of car?

Water Bourne paint?

hmmmmm black bart .i have always run a rotary buffer over this area with no problem...............like what speed do you use and what kind of pad ?
 
a little FYI on polishing urethane bumpers, use a slower speed on your rotary, like 600-1000rpms yellow foam pad and a medium cut compound.and don;t stay in one area too long.if you have tendency's to burn the cover.and or wrinkle the paint, just mist some water on the surface before you start to buff.......this keeps the heat build up to a mim.

I burnt the paint with a PC.
I think you are talking about a bumper cover I'm talking about the area around the tail lights on a C4 Corvette that would be 1984 through 1996 it is made of hard rubber and will not dissipate heat.
 
nope ,I am referring to the area in which you spoke of. that was your comment. again...........you can use a rotary on a slow speed with a yellow foam paint and medium cut abrasive on this area with no problem. the key is to work in your compound /polish first before increasing speed to 1200rpms .....keep the wheel moving and not staying in one spot . mist with water also helps if the surface is highly oxidized
