A Truck That Did Not Need Detail

New Normal
Had a chance to detail a pristine 2006 GMC 4x4 for a friend of a friend. He is a rather meticulous individual. Since I had been explaining detailing tp my friend John the owner of this GMC had really taken all the information given him and put it to good use.

He has owned this vehicle since November of 2005 but it only has 700 miles on it. This is the first vehicle that has no visible marring or scratching that I have ever had the pleasure to detail. This including my personal vehicles.

Because of previous info given to him by my friend the owner has washed using proper techniques. Dried with MF towels that I had supplied last summer. He also clayed the vehicle himself with a tutorial that I had emailed him in December of 2005. When I arrived in Fairbanks he had a few details lined up but was really excited for me to go over his truck with a good sealant and wax. I was more than happy to oblige!!!

I decided to use the Mother’s Reflection line of products. I started with Power Polish using a PC and Orange LC pad at speed 5. Used Mother’s Reflection’s Car Wax with PC on speed 4. Then top the sealant with Mother Top Coat using a damp MF applicator x2 just to make sure of complete coverage. The wheels were dressed with Poorboy’s WS. I went over the tires with Poorboy’s TR as well as the rear bumper, mud flaps, wheel wells, door seals, and engine compartment.

The biggest challenge of the entire detail was to make sure that the black molding of the vehicle did not get any dust or product on it. The owner had specifically stated that stains would be a definite downer for him. I assured him that the black would remain black. I preceded to tape off the entire vehicle. It was my first attempt at taping. It was quite involved and much harder than I had imagined it would be.

Here are some pictures. Arriving at detailer paradise.

Inside the shop was immaculate, warm, albeit rather dark.

Although, all I did was put some protection on this truck, the work was by far the most satisfying that I have ever encountered, short of my personal vehicles. This man has an appreciation of quality detailing. I know that I provided the best detail that he has ever had on any of his vehicles.

How do I know....? He said as much when he paid me.

Great looking work wish I had a shop like that to work in!, I'd have lights every where.....LOL

On the trim next time if taping takes a long time I use PB TR to remove what gets in during the detail....I find that depending on how much trim is on a car.....I find I can go over with TR faster than taping off everything....it also cleans and shines all the trim at the same time....just one thing that I have been doing for a while

Good tip, Beemerboy!! I was just nervous that there might be a stain that I could have missed. I know that the owner went over the entire vehicle with a fine tooth comb before he paid me for this detail. If there would have been any marks he (and I) would have been disappointed. Essentially stopping a good relationship as well as referals that I have already reaped the benefts from.

BLUELINE1...It was very warm. Although not fancy it certainly was neat and clean. A very pleasant place.

Then you did the right thing...it also looks more professional....I do some taping but that's mainly like rearview mirrors or places that look hard to clean.

Another great job, Kirk!! :bigups

Parking on all that white stuff really sets off the sparkle in your truck!!

Wanna send me some??

Love the second to last pic.
Kirk, looks like you have been busy up there. Are you sure you went to Alaska to work, or was it a vacatiopn to detail? LOL

Looks good as always!

Will, *detail for food*, that is for sure. It has been a good run since arriving. Hopefgully I can get back to the easy stuff just moving dirt....SOON!!

Looks great! Nive work space too

I've found that going over any moldings/trim with Trime Shine or a similar product will keep the trim from staining too. It does create a bit of a mess, but I can kill two birds with one stone. If I get any stains/sling, it wipes right off with a MF and leaves a nice black finish :)

Again, fantastic work! It's nice to know you had a pretty clean vehicle to start out with too. Those are the cleanest wheel wells that I have ever seen. The fact that the vehicle is in Alaska make it even that more impressive. Keep up the good work.

Did you relocate to Alaska for detailing work (LOL)?

You did an EXCELLENT job on that truck -especially in the dark lighting (did you pull it out to inspect it?).

Did you have a polishing step after the orange pad or did it finish clean?

Mothers looks exceptional on the paint. I need to try it out over the summer. I've heard nothing but positive comments on their FX line.

Another tip on the trim. If you dress it first, product wipes right off. Sometimes you have to re-dress an area, but it's quicker than tape. I only use tape if the rotary is coming out.

p.s. Your buddy has a very nice looking place too!

evreycar could use some detailing in some way or another, some more then others. I know when i got my car the first thing i did was wash, clay, and wax. But very nice work. looks good

I thought that it looked good after the power polish and orange pad. The paint was ripe for a wax and sealant. I used a blackLC finishing pad to apply the Car Wax. Something that I did not mention previously.

Mother's is proving to be a good product. I do not believe it is good enough for me to change stables but it certainly is a viable alternative for those that find some products less than tolerable. slickness is the only thing about Mother's Reflection line that is suspect. Of course I am not sure that slick is good. I do know that I like slick. But...Does it make it better? I cannot say.

Ya, that guy's whole little acreage is a dream come true for a guy like me. He has dozers, backhoes, trucks, sleds, motorcycles, outbuildings, and a great house. Nothing fancy but non the less very nice!!

Yes I did pull it outside to check. In fact I had a friend stop by that is very meticulous and he helped make sure that I did not miss anything. We both found small spots that I had missed on the final wipedown.
