A swirled to hell 2000 Black Vette convertible

Well I never thought a 2000 model Vette could be beat and swirled this much. There are tons of cracks in the paint(from bumping into things) scrapes, abrasions, chips, microscratches, this paint has seen it all. Well the car has only 19K miles on it and looks like it has 100K. Here is a before shot of the hood, swirl city.

here is a full pic of the car, u can even see the nasty swirls at a great distance!!! If you look towards the drivers side bumper there is a huge paint flake where the owner hit a pole, wtf! BTW the owner is my boss @ work :D . It sure was fun driving the car though!

Here are the afters, I clayed the whole car(the clay would instantly turn black within 2 swipes on the lower panels), buffed with FI2 yellow pad, buffed with AIO, and topped it with S100. The results are stunning and it gave a very deep shimmer, souveran like!

A few more after pics, check out this glow, the car is SO BLACK!

oh yes, that is stoners trim shine on the tires, works awesome imo. Leaves a matte finish and doesnt sling at all. The owner was dissapointed however, and thought I forgot to do the tires. So @ work i slopped on the silicone dressing(make it look like its raining out) and he was happy. I went and parked the car (driving at approx 10mph) and saw the dressing all over the side of the car, OH WELL! :p

I believe it was RedCarGuy that suggested the following procedure with FI2:

- Use three nickel sized dabs for a two foot by two foot section.

- Use a yellow pad.

- Smear the product over the area with the PC (so it doesn't splatter).

- Start on speed 2.

- Work in an up to down motion across the area. Then repeat left to right across the area. Use medium pressure. Move SLOWLY, perhaps one inch per second.

- After five minutes, reduce to a light pressure and move up to speed 4. Continue the same pattern but go a little faster, perhaps three inches per second.

- After five more minutes, reduce pressure so that the weight of the PC is doing most of the work. Increase to speed 5 or 6. Continue the same pattern for another five minutes.

The above process should take about 15 minutes (5 medium pressure, 5 light pressure, 5 PC weight pressure).

By doing this for 15 minutes, you're constantly breaking the abrasives in the FI2 down into smaller and smaller pieces, thereby producing a higher and higher polished surface.

Based upon your success with this black, hideously swirled vette, do you do agree with this process?

nah I never use speed 2 on the PC lol. I started at 4.5 @ heavy pressure then lightened as it went on and speeded up to 5 till most of the FI2 buffed out. Took about 10 min per section id say. It was a lot of work and still didnt get the results i wanted. I really really dislike FI2 because of the degree of difficulty it takes to get it right. I can't wait till my DACP comes in, FI2 will be demoted to the trash can :xyxthumbs .

Great work Al. I love how black cars look after being wax, but would not want the up keep. Your boss must have been taking the Vette exclusively at the MB dealer, which swirled your ML.

this guy is probably the kind of person who has a nice car and wants to show it off... so he takes it to an auto car wash every other day when it's dirty.... obviously more harm than good. Great detail btw... my boss has a lincoln that looks like that... says he's tried everything and can't get it any better... think it's time for me to give it a shot :)
