A sale through e-mail.

This one is for the guys that have problems selling to customers that price shop. I cut out the e-mail addresses. This ended up in a $650 sale.

CUSTOMER: I saw your ad on the Intranet. How much to get my 07 MDX detailed?

JD: Starting price is $650 to get a vehicle like that detailed.

CUSTOMER: Wow. Place by my house did my Galant for $125. Do my truck for $175.

JD: Yup, there are tons of places for that kind of dough. Many even cheaper than that.

The difference between my way of doing this and the standard clean up is:

I don’t put anything on the paint. I resurface it. The shine doesn’t wash off or have a short life.

We use a digital micrometer to measure the thickness of the paint, and then make a plan to resurface it. We even wet sand it if necessary.

All resurfacing is done under a $400 3m “sun light. It most closely replicates natural sunlight. We know inside the shop what the car will look like outside in the direct sun.

We use Vapor and Ozone machines to clean the interior. No chemicals, no excessive moisture, its cleaner and fresher then new when complete.

The chemicals I use are sourced from all over the world. Nothing in my shop can be purchased over the counter.

The job can take more than a day and consumes over $80 in chemicals and materials. We are right near where the NY Nicks practice, SUNY Purchase, you wouldn’t believe the cars they bring in and what they pay. We also just did Matsui’s Range Rover.

CUSTOMER: That does sound pretty good. But way too much money for my lease that goes back in 20 months. HA

JD: Very true, I personally wouldn’t spend the money on a leased car. Unless you are obsessed with your car, or a NBA player, this isn’t for everyone.

CUSTOMER: Does sound like an impressive job though.

JD: If you get a chance come by the shop, I'll give you a demo. Here is the site xxxxxxx.

CUSTOMER: O.k. I want to see this. $650 you said, what if my car is in good shape.

JD: $700.00

CUSTOMER: HA-HA I get it. What time Saturday?

This vehicle showed up on Saturday morning at 8:00am for a $650 detail. He came to back to work on Monday and told all of his buddies and we booked a second car already for this Saturday. This is a new bank I am at, I posted a can of SWISSVAX MYSTERY for sale with a few pictures of my Jeep and a Gallardo on the company intranet. Since the ad was for the sale of a product, the company left it up. If I listed this as an ad for my business, the company would have taken it down.

:secret

Let them sell themselves. This guy wasnt looking for a benefit, he knows what they are, he was loking for a feeling. This guy wanted to feel like he was on par with the NBA players. He wasnt buying a foreign wax that lasts 1000 days or a Flex polisher, he as buying a feeling. I didnt pick it up through e-mail until he came back with the comment, "Does sound like an impressive job though"

The hooks were set and I yanked the pole.

I just made a partnership with a local shop. I am pumping up the place with mechanical, autobody, and used cars. We will see how it goes, its been a week!

I agreed to start doing my few details there so I am forced to spend time at the place.
