My point is, we all have different ideas of what the result of each product should do or look like.

This is one of the problems with detailing performance discussions:

**Appearance quality can mean different things to different people; it takes a trained eye and experience with many products to understand gloss, clarity, overall shine.

**Gloss is difficult to test objectively without a very expensive glossmeter.

**Durability can be most readily tested but even then people have different abilities to perform the test objectively. Some prep differently between samples and some don't control test panels for equal exposure. Overall though, this is the easiest measure to get right.

Yeah, most stuff is in the eye of the beholder. I knew a biker years ago that always claimed to have the best this or that, one day he was bragging about something and another buddy spoke up and said, yeah George's ol lady has the best butt in town - ask anybody!

Are not most of the guys from over there banned from here anyway? :nixweiss

Why does this matter? If the other website is mentioned, there is inevitably a post in the thread that asks the same question or a statement is made to the same effect. Why does it matter if one, a dozen, or all members have been banned? Please, enlighten me.

How 'bout we add a #4?

4. I pledge to disclose whether I received any of the products I review for free, or if I am part of an organized "beta tester" program for any product that I advocate.

So much for a truce, looks like most posting up are already argueing about what they argue about...:dig

I think it's clear more people like the idea of a truce. That's encouraging to me.

I'm struck by how many people are not voting. Perhaps some benefit from product wars. But it's sad as it takes away from the community having an open debate.

Maybe all brands and makers can all work together and create one wax/sealent so there will be one honest answer? Just my thought.

I don't care what you use, as long as it floats your boat :)

Great idea - that would make it more like a detailing information forum and less like a soap opera. Still, my evil twin who has died twice, but not really died because he is an alien is still a wicked detailer!

Good thinking Lee!

A truce would be no fun at all. I love the passion people show for whatever shine maker they are rubbing on their cars. :waxing:

A truce? No way !! I say we nuke em :nana:

I guess the real issue is whether the posts are honest regardless of whether they appear here or there irregardless of who posts them.

If I think anyone is going over the line and their posts about a product are filled with marketing speak and it comes across as product promotion vs product discussion, I'm not holding my tongue.

I have some thoughts on that Scott.

First, I think the marketing speak will be evident to us so that poster's value will be discounted or outright ignored.

Second, if one responds then it may make the thread derail thereby stopping an otherwise good learning.

This is how I feel to the T.

I think I know how to solve this.

Get all your products that are similar into a basket. Empty the contents into a large pot. Heat the pot until it all melts together then rebottle.

Do this for your waxes, polishes, compounds, QDs..

Then, when you use your stuff and it gives you a great finish, all you can say is "Man. EVERY product is great!".

Good learning, such as "4. Both CS and Z-8 work well on silver door jambs."? The reason you started this poll/thread is because you got your feelings hurt in the other thread for nuggets such as the above. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

You tried this once before: http://autopia.org/forum/detailing-...be-we-need-product-truce.html?highlight=truce. You may see these attempts at "peace in our time" but some of us see it as simply you wanting to practice zealotry without any interference. You even got banned from here once for your previous religion.

EDIT: Although I disagree with Scott that the other was a shill thread, it was more of you looking for approval than providing "good learning".

There is just one brand that starts this stuff up everytime certian users post about it. Zaino. No other brand brings as much controversy and problems.

I am the moderator of a detailing section over at tundrasolutions.com. Whenever one thread about wax comes up, there are 30 people typing in all caps lock ZAINO IS THE BEST. I'll politely reply back, "well, it is good, but it's by no means the only thing out there". Then I get them back saying that Zaino is the best, and what do you use, it's not good anyway. It's just annoying.

I belive that we all just need to see that whatever works for you is just that, it works for YOU. If you like Zaino or whatever, fine, I or any others may not like the same thing. So dont try to convince me otherwise.

Bravo...I couldn't agree more.

I have no complaints with Zaino and I find it to be a great product line. I use it frequently on some of my cars. I don't however find that its the end all to car care products. To me detailing is a passion. I like to try different thinks and keep my mind open to new things. Have a purchased products I regretted...Absolutely. However, I don't think this is any different for a golfer dying to try the newest putter or driver when it hits the market. Its what a hobby is all about.

What I distaste is the zealots that state that Zaino is the best and should be the benchmark in the car care industry and try and cram that philosophy down your throat. I agree that Zaino is up there with the best. Some of their products I care for and some I don't. I personally find that there are a mix of products from several product lines that are my "go to and staple" products.

I can't tell you how many times that I am at car shows or on some car forum when some guy spouts off about how he has 100 coats of Zaino on this car. I just roll my eyes and say yeah "and it also is swirled to ****". Some people just have no clue. :angry

I feel the same way Pat but without a truce we are destined to see more of these product wars and I feel pledging up to a truce is a very good way to address it.

I like the Zaino line a lot because of Z-8/CS and the glossy look but I use all sorts of products and try new carnaubas periodically. My plan is to cherry pick the top products.

I see a lot of threads get derailed here over brand loyalties and I think a truce will serve to keep things more open minded.

We need a "truce"? For what? Brandon1 nailed it and Pat shoveled the dirt on top - jeez dude, just let it rest OK?
