A modest suggestion for improving the PoorBoy's line...

secure some BETTER MICROFIBER!

This is a really nice company but I have to say their MF is not up to par. While I like a lot of their products, the MF is often very thin and not high quality of manufacture.

There is an easy solution...hook up with Wayne's Towels or PakShak and bring in some nice quality plush/ultra fine towels. Such fine towels would be perfect for buffing the quality waxes out.

I think it's a product line that is improving greatly and I would just like to see the MF a bit higher in quality.

I don't mean to start a flame war here but I feel this is a legitimate weakness in the line.
 
I understand that you don't want to start a war. What specific towels are you referring to? The only towel I have from Steve is the mega plush and I think it's top notch. Very plush, no labels, what more can I say?
 
You might wanna post this in the Poorboy's forum. I think the only microfiber that is a little iffy for me is the glass cleaning mf. Its slightly to thin and small to grab the windows. But when done correctly they are really good.

Poorboy's MF are different, but I think high quality. Its a different feel :dunno

I totally agree. I love the other mf towels, but not the glass cleaning towel.
 
Frankly the glass towel, the velvet buffing towel, and the plush towel are not up to par in my opinion. I think they should make the plush out of finer fibers for instance like PakShak's ultra fine.

The velvet smooth is one of my favorite towels. I regard it as a specialty towel. I use it for removing last step products like sealants and waxes. This towel and the DF Concours towel seem to handle this task better than any other MF towel I've tried. The glass towel actually has a similar weave to the velvet smooth, but it may be slightly lighter in weight and smaller in size. It works well for cleaning the insides of windows specifically because it is thin. The thinness allows the towel to fit into the small space at the bottoms of the windshield and rear window.

If you're looking for a general purpose towel, the Poorboy's Mega Plush may be a better fit for your needs. I've tried dozens of different MF towel brands, and that towel has the thickest pile I've come across.
 
Marj just to make you pay more, you should try the Autofiber Elite buffing MF, now that is very close to the Mega Plush which I love.
 
Poorboy was nice enough to send me a PM explaining the MF line in more detail. I am glad they are active in reading the suggestions on the board here. Following this new information, I think I may retract my suggestions with respect to the Mega Plush towel.

My belief is that thicker MF works best for glass. This goes a bit against conventional wisdom but I find that longer nap/fibers do a better job of both cleaning and drying the glass. My fave is the Viper glass cleaning towel.
 
I have got to say that I have zero complaints with Steve's towels. And I must disagree with you on the window towels. To me, they are better than using thicker ones on the glass. I have had nothing but excellent results with them and will continue to use them for my detailing/cleaning needs. :)
 
Lee after doing some reading, it might be the products that are used with the thin towels that have given you this impression...people who have use just a spritz of Spray and Wipe with the thin towels ave had no complaints at all, at least that I've heard, but if you use a heavy spray like Stoners or Sprayway, where a lot of moisture is being absorbed into the small cloth it could possibley give you a negative effect or streaking....with mf on windows, very little product should be needed and some mf mfg's claim you can even do it dry or with a little bit of water...I would rather use a cleaner:dunno ...
Towels with more nap would tend to drag more product around and thus a higher chance of streaking, but again I have used the mega-plush for this purpose as well as my other mf's but found the BEST and easiest results consistanly came with these thin ones. One case where a thicker towel may work better is when you are detailing the inside windows of a smoker and the thick film of nicotine left on the windows could also clog the weave:dunno

I think you're right on the problem...the only towel I have had an issue with is the glass towel...and I use Stoner's normally. Recently I used the 1Z Glass Polish couldn't use the glass towel to buff it off...I'll try the glass towel with something lighter and see how it does.

I love the mega plush with S&W...guess I could try S&W on the windows with the glass towel.
 
What you posted makes perfect sense Steve and I agree with you. I myself use your velvet smooth glass towels with Stoners Invisible Glass and that combo for me has been flawless.

I have also had good results using Stoners and newspaper. Maybe you should try that if you are having difficulty with the towels. :dunno
 
Yes sometimes using too much of any liquid product on any type of surface will get towel too damp and cause streaking...and yes I could see having a problem with them using a polish as a polish would need a thicker nap to pull it off the surface..
 
Hmmm...maybe I am using too much product. I still feel the longer nap has its advantages. Maybe I have a preference for how the mega plush towels feel on glass. There's more to grip and the drying seems better.

I use the IG and Sprayway fairly sparingly. Maybe I will experiment some more this weekend. I may buy some more Mega Plush and a new glass towel and experiment...maybe I've been too critical here.

***Newspaper is not recommended. I can leave ink trails and streaks on the glass in my experience.
 
I use Steve's pale green "glass towel" with Stoner's and haven't had any problems with streaking, inside or out. I just spray a little IG on the towel, wipe on & buff off - for me, it's a great combo!!

I also LOVE his "mega-plush" for S & W work!! In fact, I would have to say, that it's my favourite M/F for most "paint work". But for drying, you can't beat PAC's Super Soft Grey Waffle Weaves, IMHO!!

True but if done correctly, there is no streaking involved. I used this method 'back in the day' if you will prior to all these neato cool products.

And.. never had one bit of streaking. Perhaps it is your technique that needs some working on.
 
I seem to recall reading that newspaper used to work well "back in the day", but "they" have changed the ink used, and that is why it is no longer recommended.

Which is the reason that I do not use it anymore. That is why there are MF towels now. :)

My father-in-law tho still uses them on his vehicle, and swears by them still. I guess you can call him ole skool, but to each his own.

It can't be. I have no newspaper technique. :) I have heard from too many pros that this is a no-no. It is far easier to use MFs these days.
