A LONG lasting tire shine

This must be some kind of flexible clear coat, since it is water based I'm gonna have to guess an acrylic kinda like mop and glo.

This stuff reminds me of Tropi-Care's tire dressing that Steve does not carry anymore, the stuff lasted well over a month before I tried something else. It would have lasted alot longer if I did not remove it. Also, you had to use a special cleaning product to get the tires absoultly clean before using the product. The product would crack on your fingers also.

I'm not trying to rain on you sunshine parade, but I have seen the stuff and I personally don't care for it. Let me give me $0.02. In my opinion (which really isn't worth much) the stuff is way to shiny to look at home on tires. I have seen it at car shows all over the place recently... and they are usually trying to sell it for somewhere from $25 to $30 a bottle. When you feel it, it doesn't feel slick like tire gloss but almost like spraying a plastic coating on the tire. Now I know its water based but I still feel like using the stuff will eventually dry out the tires and cause dry rot and cracking. Its like coating something with crazy glue. That's shiny too, but you know what it does to rubber. I don't know, just my $0.02. I could see how most customers who aren't autopian's would go for this in a heart beat thought. The stuff lasts forever. Just makes the car look like a hot wheels car with those plastic tires.

Now I feel compelled to buy some mop 'n glo and wipe it on my tires to see if I get the same result. If I do I'll post pics and we'll have a new way to get long lasting non-sling tire shine.

I just got mine today. I actually called the company and talked with the inventer. He told me that the main thing to do was be sure the tire is cleaned good. As soon as I can I'll take some befores and afters and try to post them. Also I'll give my opinion of Tuf Shine! I know some do not like the glossy tires, but I do. To each his or her own!

Are you a Chemist? Or do you have some proof to back your claim? You said it was just you 2cents, but you sounding like you had conducted an experiment with the product. Do you know the active ingredients, anything about it? I'm not jumping your stuff. But alot of the products we use often we don't really know what or where they come from. I would say write any company and ask for the MSDS sheet. Then you will know what is in a product, and also have a little better idea what it's flash point is, reaction with other chemicals etc.

I figured since i was the only one that posted I was not impressed with the product, in a thread with 20+ people raving about it, that I was going to get this type of response. In answer to your question... no I don't have any proof to back it up, its just an "opinion." But I will tell you what, I am not too far off from the truth. What I did learn when I was in school for Automotive, as I am an ASE cert. Technician... most the "cheapo" Walmart tire glosses on the market do effect the longevity and the life of the sidewall of the tire. You may not necessarily see dry wall cracking, as the purpose of tire gloss is to look good and prevent that such thing, but by adding it on a regular basis you are softening the sidewalls. At high speeds, (Corvette Speeds) that could lead to a blowout. And yes, that has been proven.

But that's not the point. The point is, I don't care for the way it looks, that's my opinion and I am entitled to it. It looks way to much like a plastic coating to me. You eyes may tell you differently.

I don't really care enough to contact the company and find out if this particular product is "dangerous," because I don't like how it looks and thus will never use it on any of my personal vehicles. But any of you guys are so inclined, be my guest, and do the research. I wouldn't mind finding out the results.....

Good Luck,

Dan

OK Danspeed,

No harm intended. I understand your point. Excepted! I do like the shine on my wheels. That is a personal choice. I'll post as soon as it stops raining here, and let you know my opinion of the product!

Sounds good to me...

I just personally don't care for how shiny it is. You may love it. If there was some way to dull it down a bit I may of considered it.

To give you an idea of what looks good to me; on my own cars, the only thing I use these day is Zaino tire shine; its like a semi-gloss.

DG

You can dull it down.

Dampen the sponge slightly and then apply, or a few min after application use a slightly damp MF and wipe the tires allow to dry.

You can start out almost dull, and work up from there to find your sweet spot of looks.

I just contacted the company about some of the issues you guys are bringing up, and others I asked them about earlier.

First the company only has sold this product on the west coast and in limited areas, so I doubt the products some of you mentioned are not the same.

Secondly, as for tire rot this stuff is like a "clearcoat" on the tire it does not penetrate the tire, it also has UV protectants. The owner told me a story, about his discussion with one of the major tire companies tire chemists and this product. The chemist stated that this stuff looks to be the "holy grail" of tire coatings as he sees no way this would effect tire wear or chemistry.

While I don't mind researching out all these questions with the company for everyone, I suggest you give them a call or email.

Cheers,

GREG

Actually got mine this week and put it on my Vibe this evening. Cleaned the tires twice with the cleaner and put a total of three coats of the shine. It was almost dark when I got done, so not sure of how it looks yet.

Question: Does anyone think that the cleaner smells like simple green, or a like product. I'm not gonna continue to buy their cleaner, as for the price...it'll get expensive.

Their cleaner is far better than SG even if you don't Dilute SG.

You don't use the cleaner each time you need to apply the product, you only use it for the first application. After the first you can just clean the tires with soap and water, and then reapply after the tire is dry.

Allow the cleaner time to work, about 5 minutes and the PW it off and apply the cleaner again till you don't see vast amounts of brown grime coming off. Mine took 3 cleanings, most take two.

I have been using the Black restore by this same company, and hope to have a summary of my results soon. Any one else try out this stuff. I worked on a Cooper with all that black trim........ turned out nice. I will check on the durability.

I'm interested in hearing what was the outcome by the others that purchased the Tire Shine? Good/Bad let them rip.

I'm really learning to like this tire "sealant" shine. I just let me car go 2 weeks without washing....... the tires cleaned up very nice al beit they need another coat since its been a month, just to get the full shine back.

Cheers,

GREG
