a good starter kit

hi all,



My first post here, so please don't laugh too hard. I've searched and have not come to any good conclusions. Based on your recommendations, I purchased a pc from lowes today. However now, i need to know what type of kit or products I should by for the following task:



I have a 2002 acura and a 2005 mercedes that I would like to bring to a beautiful shine. the mercedes is fine, but the acura has alot of small scratches on it from road debris, snow cleanup, etc.



what do you recommend?

You may want to look into the sonus pads. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-daspad-kit.html. You may want to get a couple extra blue and green. As far as products go, you may want to take a look at the poorboy's lineup, very user friendly. Off the top of my head SSR 2.5, ex-p, topped with natty's is a good combo for various colors. I'm sure others will chime in on this one.
 
I was wondering about the model of the PC that you bought...I assume it's a 7336SP....? I work at Lowes and thought about buying it instead of ordering the 7424. I don't know what the differences are between the two. Was yours around $100? Either way it will be way nicer than doing it by hand

hey bro. i purchased the 7336sp, with the lowes 10% off coupon it was about $88 w/tax. After reading and searching in this forum, it's just as good as the 7424, the main difference being a different counterweight.
 
Its not "just as good." Its the exact same thing , with just the 6inch counterweight.



Actually has more for less in the 7336sp kit from lowes. Compared to anywhere with the 7424. As well it has the better counterweight. Since most people upgrade to the 6inch counterweight when they get 5.5+ pads or anything heavier than what it was meant for.



The 6inch counterweight reduces vibration.

but other than that, it's pretty informative in describing the differences between porter cables 7336 and 7424 etc.



also check out some of the major vendors listed under the "Detailing & Car Care Supplies" Web link, like the autopia store, autogeek, or classis motoring accessories. these vendors should have a pad starter kit which includes a bunch of different pads (at least one cutting, polishing, and finishing pads) along with the correct backing plate.

man, I had that 7336 in my hands when shopping locally for a PC, but since it wasn't the "7424" model everyone was talking about, I turned it down and ordered the PC for almost 50$ more. I stll had to buy a backing plate and pads so I didn't save any money. I can't believe that.
 
Yeah youll still need a new backing plate and pads for any model variant. But yeah saving some money and getting it immediatly is a major plus.



This also creates for an easier return if their is trouble. While if something goes wrong and you got it online. Your looking at shipping there and probably back. Plus they might just stiff you alltogether and tell you to contact a porter cable repair center.



While lowes will simply replace it. Or at least im guessing that would be the case. As this is what most retails stores do.
