Yes, carnauba wax is safe for clearcoated wheels, but it's not going to last (will melt on hot rims). You should really use a synthetic product like Klasse AIO or Zaino. If you wanna go cheap try Finish First or Nu Finish. All these products will protect your wheels and make cleaning easier.
 
Treat your wheels like you do your paint and you will not go wrong.



and as said above polymers will last longer on wheels.
 
the Klasse twins are an excellent solution for protecting your wheels. IMO, the wheels represent a very tough environment (heat, abrasive brake dust, road garbage, etc. etc.) so you will likely want to re-apply frequently to keep the wheels well-protected.
 
If you do not want to mail order products some poylmer based products available at auto stores are: Meguiars #16, Finish 2001, NuFinish and Liquid Glass.
 
if you what to try a few waxes and compare,

try collinite insultor. its the same as coll doulble coat

and coll fleet wax but only in a gel form.

Remind yourself to only use non-stripping car paint safe car wash, Meguiars Gold Class for example. So that you don't have to rewax every week.
 
I've used NuFinish for two years with great results. It even has a pretty good cleaner in it that gets a lot of the unseen gook (technical term) off the wheels before the finish takes hold.

The weather here in Boston is truly grimy. I can't bear the site of the cars in the garage. They are so dirty and the weatherman has not forecast any conditions that would have me out getting them cleaned up.

I will say, Klasse is incredibly durable under the lousy weather conditions. Better than any other product I have sampled.

About a week ago I put Black Magic on the tires. Last night after work I washed the car and used Finish 2001 on the rims. They had about a month of brake dust on them, but it came right off. I think there's a clear coat on the rims already.

Yes, any good synthetic such as Meguiar's #20, Klasse AIO, Klasse SG, Z-2 etc.... will give you good results on rims as they are more durable than carnaubas.



Tom, to be perfectly honest the only thing that has blown me away in the past two to three months is the look of some of the pics of the Blackfire system. Looks real nice. The other thing that is worth mentioning is that I had two wheels professionally refinished at the Wheel Collision Center. They charged me about $100 for my 17 inch wheels. I had two of them done and I must say that the results are spectacular. Identical to the factory finish and when I had them balanced with my tires they were absolutely perfect both times. Very impressed. I believe that this company is in the New England area. Laters buddy.
 
Car was due for its 15,000 mile service, fluids top off and a few things I wanted checked out.

Began yesterday with a thorough wash, wheel cleaning, QD wipedown and tire dressing. I feel that if your car looks spotless than nobody feels they would be doing you a favor by wiping it down or putting on some greasy tire shine.

Than this morning I printed out several of these signs....

Then upon entering the service department I taped 4 signs to the 4 windows of my car. I got some very odd glances from the people who worked there, my service manager and some people in the showroom looking out through the glass... One employee said "did you just get the car painted, is that why we cant touch it?" :giggle:

Why go through this trouble? Well 2 weeks ago I finished my winter prep, and after nearly 15hours polishing my paint to my liking I wasnt about to let anyone wipedown or wash the car and ruin my hard work. It may seem extreme but my I spend too much time keeping my car clean and to have it get ruined in any degree by anything short of an unpreventable cause or accident.

I stayed for 2.5hrs waiting for the car to be finished, when it came back I inspected it, saw everything was in order and drove home. This is how I will do every service from now on.
 
wowza, nice Audi, did the same when our Audi goes into service, got some new winter wheels on, when i came back there was grease (like petroleum based lube) all over the front and rear fenders.
