A day at the service department...

You just can't be too careful Dave.

I have to make up some of those signs for when I take my car in. When I had my bimmer, I got to know my service manager so well, that he always commented on how good my car looked, and he knew to make sure that nobody touched the finish.

The last time I took my wife's Camery in, I forgot to mention to them that they were not to touch it, and it came back with some disgusting greasy mess for tire dressing that splattered all over the paint.

It won't happen again!

My car is 9 years old (wayy out of warranty obviously) so it gets serviced by an independent mechanic, I never have to worry about washes or wipe downs.

My parent's cars on the other hand go to the dealer for service (BMW and Lexus), every time they go in I put in signs on the dash that are just like that. They say "Do Not Wash" in big letters, with "No Lave Este Coche" in smaller letters just below that. The one time I didn't put the signs in (a number of years ago), wouldn't you know, the dealer washed it (mom's X3) and swirled the sh!t out of it.

Yup, I do the same. I even provide a non-skid, non-mar pad for the technician to use UNDER their fender cover. I place the note under the wiper, on the passenger seat and on the steering wheel.

The Hyundai shop I go to has gotten used to my querkiness, especially the paint and tire pressure. This is what I print out:

Service Technician:

Please do NOT adjust tire air pressure
Please do NOT wash the car
Please do NOT top off washer fluid
Please do NOT wipe down exterior paint for any reason
Please do NOT wipe down interior surfaces for any reason

IF YOU WILL USE A FENDER COVER:

Please place the black non-skid mat (on front passenger seat) over fender body / under your fender cover.

Thank You!

Thats great Dave! I was a little scared opening this, halfway expecting them to mess the car up and see the horror pics to follow. I'm glad that didn't happen!

Nice!
I don't think you can blame anyone who values a scratch free surface, from doing their best not have some service member ruining that for you.

My wife and I spent 7 hours on her CC and took it into the dealer for it's 1st inspection and my wife grilled those poor guys hard that they were not to wash, wipe, or touch that paint. :D

Perfect!!!

When I took my new Vette in for the 3000 mile checkup/oil change, I attached this sign:

THIS CAR IS PERFECT INSIDE AND OUT
NO DINGS
NO SCRATCHES
NO SCUFFS
NO DIRT OR GREASE ANYWHERE

DO NOT WASH THIS CAR!!!

I WILL INSPECT THE CAR AFTER SERVICE

(If there had been even one tiny grease spot on the carpet or those red leather seats, I would have launched a purple-faced attack on the service manager and stated to him: "I want to talk to the person who can fire you!!!!")

Yes, when it comes to my new $70,000 car, I'm an ass.

I actually like your sign better than mine. Mine would tend to piss off the service guy I think.
