A couple G35s, Rolls, ML320, 4 in one afternoon

2004 Infiniti G35. Detailed the exterior about 5 weeks ago, he wanted the interior detailed and another coat of Souveran.

We also detailed his wife's 2000 Mercedes ML320, even though a local car wash had detailed it the day before (she didn't know I was coming out to detail it) and let's just say the job was less than spectacular. Door jams and fenderwells were still filthy, the mats hadn't been cleaned at all, greasy protectant slathered everywhere but nothing appeared to have been actually cleaned before application and they waxed right over bugs and paint transfers. I didn't take any before shots, really didn't have the time to take a lot of pics, they had plans that afternoon. At least it was easy to wash. The spider swirls actually weren't that bad even though I hadn't detailed it for about 2 years so I started with Optimum Compound using a white LC polishing pad, then used Clearkote's Vanilla Moose with a Meguiars polishing pad and sealed with Poorboy's EX w/carnauba.

The other day, my sons and I had 4 cars to wash and wax and about 4 hours to do it. This is at the office that gives out an exterior one step detail to their employees as a incentive. I don't do any polishing beyond what a one step is capable of unless the employees toss in the extra. Some do, most don't. I guess if it shines it is good enough for them. :nixweiss



Anyway, I had done the Dakota and the blue and red Explorers in the past and the black Explorer was brand new so I just went with Optimum No Rinse Wash to clean them, while one of my sons did the wheels, fenderwells, door jambs and windows and the other vacuumed and did all the waxing. We ended up deciding on Poorboy's EX w/carnauba because it holds up well, looks great on all colors and despite the abundance of puffy clouds everywhere, none seemed to block out the sun for more than a minute or two at a time.

The 2006 Explorer is the only one I haven't posted yet and the other 3 looked their typical decent self, so I am just posting the '06. I think it turned out really good for just washing and waxing it. Seems to have really good paint too.

2004 Rolls Royce Phantom. A really daily driver too, he's had it 26 months now and it has over 27,000 miles on it. I had polished it with Werkstatt's Prime and sealed with Acrylic Jett about 4 weeks ago but some time during the last couple of weeks, he parked it near some sprinklers. Hard water spots all over the hood, passenger side and trunk lid. :hairpull:



When I visited with David at Optimum last week in Memphis, he gave me a 4 oz sample of a water spot remover he is working on. Told me it is great on paint, so-so on glass so he isn't ready to release it until it works better on glass. All you do it pour some on an MF towel, hold your nose (strong vinegar scent)-kidding about holding your nose, isn't quite that bad! and then wipe on the paint. Works pretty fast, a couple areas I had to go over twice. I followed with a wet and dry MF to remove any residue. Nice product, saved me from having to deep polish the paint. I then used Prime with a white LC polishing pad on the water spotted areas, buthe other side and roof had been done so recently I didn't see a need to hit them with Prime. I then used Acrylic Jett Trigger on the whole car. First pics I have of it using the Werkstatt twins. I'd used AJ on it before but not over Prime. Anyway, the combo gives it a really clear wet look.

2004 Infiniti G35. I do an exterior detail on this twice a year-last done in November. She's had it nearly 2 years and it still has less than 10,000 miles on it. 6 speed, Brembo brakes and a Borla exhaust, just what a school teacher needs to get to class on time! Anyway it was in the usual superb condition, still no spider swirls because he husband hand washes it and is very careful while doing so. I used Prime with a white LC polishing pad and sealed with Acrylic Jett.

How do you like the Prime as a polish, will it take out just minor swirling? Do you like the Prime/Jett combo?
 
if you've been keeping up with scott's thread, you'd see that he's pretty happy with the combo. Pictures of his details is the reason why I just purchased the combo. :)
 
The Souveran on the red G35 makes me wish for a red car. It's super!



A G35 to drive to school in? I drive a Focus to school. I must be teaching in the wrong place ; )
 
Nice work all round, can't beat the Werkstatt twins on silver. Love the Rolls Royce... that's a mean looking lump of luxury... :)

on a side note Im not sure if I have asked this before, but what camera are you using. Alot of your shots seem to be over exposed and not doing your work justice.
 
love 'em all. Interesting to see you went with EX for a one step. Other than EX, what would you consider a good one step ? I've been using nxt, and m21 for my one steps

Nikon N60 using Kodak High Definition film (400 ASA). No matter what exposure setting I use, it either washes out white cars or the background when shooting dark cars in the full sun. My old Minolta was fully manual and I never had exposure problems like I do with this one.



dtailmycar-I use Optimum No Rinse Wash on them and if the wheel wheels are really bad, I go back over them again and then once more with a bucket of clean rinse water.



tumbler-I went with EX because it is so sun friendly, looks good and is pretty durable. We just hand waxed them, other than Meguiars #66, most one steps don't have much polishing power even with a PC-and #66 isn't meant for use in the full summer sun. Poorboy's Polish w/carnauba works well in the sun but only cleans the paint instead of polishing it.
 
Nice work as always, Scott. Now how'd you manage to get the RR's on the wheels of the Rolls to both be perfectly straight up and down? :) Actually, it's in every picture - does that center hub not rotate?

The "RR" stays when the wheel rotates. I think the emblem is weighted or something and doesn't spin with the wheels.

The Rolls would be great for a weekend of showing off, but quite honestly, I'd prefer one of those 6 speed G35 coupes (both with Brembos!) instead.
