A couple days with a Testarossa

Hey guys; been awhile since I posted a C&B. I have a bunch of cars but tight on time. I thought this one was worth a post though! This car was purchased with 800 miles on the clock and was a show car. It has 2000 miles now and the owner was going to have it appraised for insurance reasons, so detailing time. Amazing car, FWIW, sounds incredible, very much a "driving" car. I like the color combo a lot (looks amazing in person), though not for everyone.



I was originally only going to have it for a day, but due to rain he left it with me for three days, which gave me a lot of time to really dive into it. I wanted to get it as close to perfect as possible. I'd say overall the total time spent was 25ish hours on the car. The paint was not too hand, just about average; actually very nice to work on which is good since so much of it was done by hand, hah.



Process was:



Wetsanded some deeper scratches, only a couple.

Hi Temp Heavy Cut/orange pad @ 1700 rpm

106FF/white pad @ 1300 rpm

Menzerna IP by hand in the areas between the door slats, the slats themselves... (that was a fun 4 hours!)

106ff by hand in the same areas to clean up.

Dyed all the trim with Leatherique Rubber Black.

HD cleanse the entire car

Zymol Concours on day one, two, and three.

Did the engine with a diluted APC and some good soft bristled toothbrushes, dressed with CD-2.



Inside was easy, a quick vac with some 303 cleaner, leather conditioned and cleaned with leatherique, goodtimes.



I apologize in advance for the lack of good afters. When the owner picked it up on day 3 he needed to rush out to get to the appraisal, and it was raining straight for the 2 days before. He may come back for some pics some time soon!

Excellent work! I would love to have a car like that for a few days to try and perfect, even though it would suck to be detailing around all those awkward lines and angles.

Paint looks flawless in the afters :)
 
WOW. I love the before/after of the wetsanding. I have to learn to do that.

Beautiful color! Is that the Tour de France blue? The sound of those flat 12's is just heavenly.

Canon 300D, it's a hand me down from my wife. I just leave it on auto but it does the trick.

I like it a lot. Some quick notes on it - it looks similar to Souveran but it has a "clearer" look, which seems pretty typical of the Zymols. It deepens and darkens paint quite a lot. The only real "con" is that when you apply it it can leave small yellow dust particles behind, which almost look like pollen. A quick distilled water wipe gets rid of them though.

It's Sera Blue, similar to TDF blue but a bit lighter I think. I had to do one touch up repair so the owner provided a matched touchup jar.



I totally agree on the flat 12. It sounded *un-believable* in my garage.

It's cool to have the time to really sit back and take your time. There were some areas that were a pain, but knowing I had the time to spare made it ok. The two real tough areas (aside from the side slats) were in between the "Ferrari" logo on the trunk and underneath the metal slats on the bumper. You can't remove either, so for the metal slats I unscrewed the sides and then propped them up like this:

...that way the rotary could get under them to polish the inside of the bumper. :D Those two white pads came in handy!
 
I agree, that first full after pic was unbelievable:woot2: Those pictures look like they belong in the brochure. Looks like you spent a lot of time on that engine, it came out really clean:goodjob
 
Formidable work! Can I ask you how you took the picture of the front of the Ferrari? Looks very cool, nice effect!
 
When I saw Testarossa I expected red.. WOW that color is AWESOME.. and so is your work!!!
