I wanted a way to line my tool box with something substantial enough, so larger polishers don’t tip over.
Tried many things, including Yoga mats, rubber floor mats.
Either too thin or my Mark ll 21 still tipped over, with just a softer landing. Which made my heart skip a beat every time !
My search led me to Kaizen Foam
Got it from HD. Comes in 3 sizes
2’x4’ x 2-1/4” or 57mm.
2’x4’ x1-1/8” or 30mm. This is what I picked up.
2’x4’ x 7/8” or 20mm.
This is not scored like pick and pull foam. This is layers that are removed to create a bed. The process is time consuming but 100% worth it.
I started out with the 1-1/8” to get some practice before I tackled the larger drawers where my big boys live.
For those I will need the 2-1/4”
Now on to the pics.
My tools,
Sm. & med. Snap blades w/ extra blades
Long neck markers
I did find a cut kit
Figured if I made my own I’d get some practice and save a few $$
The layout
This finger hole maker was easy,
a 6” pipe w/ handle bar grip, flat file out, round in, to sharpen.
Trace around tool, remove as you go. Cut and pull.
Dig in and plow out a layer, try for a full first layer. Then keep fitting the tool and plowing small amounts. A tight fit is key. Trust your OCD !!
I have to stress that you stay well inside the lines, make small adjustments, a tight fit . You can always remove more but can’t fix it if it’s too big. Like this.
Finger pulls
Finished with a case from HF.
The drawer and polishers and Yoga mat.
I found that if I lifted the thicker tools, and marked them again, I could see the line better when cutting. (one handed for pic.)
Don’t forget the cords
Finished, 1st drawer.
Definitely need thicker foam for the 15m. and 21m. Polishers. Plus I left room in the cut box for a silver marker, and these super thin blades to help with fine tuning.
Well that’s it.
