997 Porsche Turbo clean up (white)

This is a car my customer bought pre-owned from Houston Texas, nice car but it had been run through a commercial car wash from the looks of things.



The start of the correction, wheels were pretty bad

Dismounted the wheels and got to work

With the wheels off it was time to get the wells and suspension cleaned

"The golden J" method of backlighting with the shop lights off an using only the halogens to see flaws on light colors

Nasty scratch that was not going to correct 100%, but I saned with 1500 then 2000 grit

After the correction was done compressed air was used to remove dust

Used the steamer to clean the engine as it was bad...

While I has it out I steamed other parts as well, keyhole and fuel filler cap area

Rear decklid was real bad, so de-badged the emblem and corrected then re-installed the Turbo emblem with a newly painted black one from the O.E chrome one

Has a gloss meter in the shop to play with and the readings @ 60 degree angle were 114

Your professionalism is your biggest asset.

You do not come across as cocky, yet it is obvious that you are a craftsman.



If you ever get tired of doing cars every day, you should consult for other detailers on how to set up a shop, create an image, and deliver top-notch work.



It is obvious you know how to detail, but it is apparent that you have an eye for creating a professional image, too.

There is SO MUCH MORE I would like to do if I had the funds(wouldn't we all) I try to not come off as elite, but lately there have been some who see me as arrogant anyway.



The biggest thing is that I LOVE cars, even after all this time detailing and that is counting the time before I opened legit(did cars on the side as early as 1988)when I see a nice car I still like it, wondering how I would modify it and detail the car to make it the best that car could be.



I am looking foward to the new cars coming out from Rolls, Audi and Ferrari(456 Italia) hopefully the economy will stabilize and the car companys can prosper.



As for consulting maybe in the future, but recently I tried to advise a company I was working with and that did not go to well...................... you can lead a horse to water.......... we all know the rest.



I was talking to Ryan(rydawg) the other evening about how sometimes we will lose money on a job because you work hours way beyond the quoted hours of the job, and I suspect there are many of us who do this all the time and on the surface it is bad business however building a reputation of quality will always outlast those who go for the money first "Integrity before profit" but without profit there is no business and the balance of the two is always difficult to accomplish because most people view Detailing as something you do because your not very intelligent or have little to no education. I still do it because I enjoy it(except when dealing with "cheapinowski" types of people).

As mention your shop is top notch. I have been eyeing up a scissors lift for the garage.



I too think you fall into the realm of Master Craftsman and you are very humble.

That save on the Vette was and is awesome, deep pigtails on C5 paint........... not my idea of fun and you are one of the few who could fix that disaster.



The scissor lift set up is a Godsend, first you have access all around the car, the only downside is if you cannot install it inground you have to make surrounds and approach ramps like I did as I am doing alot of lowered sports cars.



My shop is smallness........... 1013 sq /ft if I had big bucks I would get my old crew from Performance Art and build this again.

Bob, another great job my friend. I always enjoy viewing your threads. You and Ryan hit the nail on the head with "Integrity before profit". I myself will at times go over the requested time frame not making the money I should but when your work is word of mouth, you will be among a select few who constantly stay busy with corrections. Even when doing a 1 step for a 3 series, (4-7 hours) I find myself saying, "a 2 step would make this thing look SWEEET". Finding a happy medium between yourself and the customer is so rewarding in the end. Great job, look forward to more.
 
:thx You are always current on the latest industry stuff. (a gloss meter? Who knew!) and the steamer for the door lock cylinders. Thanks for the postings and inspiration.:2thumbs:
 
Wow Im curious on that gloss meter Bob. To be able to measure the level of gloss has things ripping threw my head. I'm glad your talking with Rydawg He is a trip isn't he. Car looks great as always. great work man!
