993 Black Turbo Detailed

It's been a long while since I posted up anything here but figured I would throw up one of my last details.

Super soft paint on this Porsche. It is a repaint so that may attribute to the pain in the butt the paint was especially when most repaints are on the hard side.

I had this Porsche in our shop for I think 6 days and it has at least 12 hours of work on the exterior alone. It was wet sanded in some areas to remove dirt nibs and blending lines, it was tinted all the way around except for the windshield (obviously). Speaking of tint, we had to dismantle the rear wiper arm and remove it completely in order to get the tint to lay down without a blemish by the wiper arm area.

I don't have many specific BEFORE and AFTERS but rather a collection of befores, durings and afters so here we go.....

This is of the front wiper posts. This area had an odd paint blending line so I wet sanded this area to lessen that and also get rid of some hard water spotting.

Now here is that area after being polished out.

Here are a few pictures of the front fender and rear quarter panel during wet sanding......unfortunately I do not have any specific AFTER shots of these areas

The pipes were scorched a bit so I used the new Optimum Metal Polish to get them back to their original luster.

This is after the 2nd time polishing the entire paint all over. So this would be the 6th and final polishing step.

My steps were wool LC pad with 105, LC white pad with 105, blue finishing pad with OPII and my last steps were with Ultrafina. Optimum Opti-Seal tops this black beauty.

The engine all detailed

And finally finished...after much hair loss!

As usual with your projects, it turned out great. :bigups:bigups:bigups

I know how much we talk about process being 90% and product 10%, but did you see much difference after applying the Opti-Seal?
Has it been long enough to tell if the Opti-Seal looked even better the next day?

It may be all psychological, but I think I definitely see more than a 10% improvement after applying the Opti-Seal and I also think it looks even better the following day
:dunno:

As an aside, since the paint job was not perfect by any means, how did they justify what was probably a horrendous price?
Do you have any idea what that price might have been?

Hey Charles,

My buddy Ron came in the morning following the OS application and he stated that the paint looked much nicer...more reflective...than the previous night.

I personally couldn't tell but then again I had been starring at the Porsche for days:D

OS, being a polymer, should look better 24 hours later after the bonding process. It should darken paint also.

I'm not sure about the price....are you speaking of the price of the Turbo?

The price of the paint job is what I was referring to.
My comment was a little negative towards the paint shop since you had to remove the dirt nibs and blending lines. It almost seems like that should have been done by the paint shop.
My friend that has the body shop does mostly hack jobs for used car dealers anymore and even those have the dirt nibs and orange peel sanded/polished out before he sends the vehicle back to the dealer.

Ahhh...I got ya know.

The Porsche came from California so I have no idea about the cost of the paint job and the coverage is very good, the gloss prior to the detail was nice but it had a few areas that looked like they were in need of some more finish out work before stamping "Finished" on the body shop invoice.

Another great correction job there, always looking forward your work Anthony........looks perfect!!!!

Still my favorite 911 body. They may not be as fast as the new 997 Turbos (those things will take your nuts off) but I have always loved those whale tails! :D

Great work!:bigups

The picutres are so shimmering that the car appears to be moving. I love black vehicles. Thanks for posting pictures and process. I enjoyed the post!!

Yes the 993's are almost now mystical and holding their value very well.

Thank you :)

Thanks guys, I very much appreciate the compliments...but the car had a lot to do with it:D

Yes there is nothing like black paint but it's a love/hate relationship. It's lovely when done properly but you'll hate it a day or so after because it shows so much dirt!:wall

Merry Christmas!
