I bought this car about a month ago, its got some big time paint issues, really bad chipping on the roof, oxidized all over, swirl marks, etc.. (You can see the other pics in this thread: Click!

It started like this:

I washed it using Zymol car wash and some sheepskin mits, dried it, and clayed it. There wasn't a whole lot removed from the paint using the clay, kinda surprising. Washed it again, and then started with the ColorX. This stuff goes on really easily, and off almost as easy.

As soon as I wiped it off I knew I had made the right purchase. I tried to get a picture of the difference in the spot that had it and the spot that didn't, but it didn't turn out. This stuff was awesome, the paint looked deep, deep blue and you could actually see the metal flecks. Finished wiping it all off and started in with the NXT. The difference with the NXT wasn't as dramatic as with the ColorX, but the NXT added a very nice gloss and wetness to it.

Needless to say I'm super happy with the results. I realize the paint, overall is in pretty terrible condition, but what's left now looks pretty good IMO.

This is the first time I've ever really done this, I've washed and waxed my Cobra w/ Zymol before, but nothing this in-depth.. I also did it all by hand.. no PC available for me! (yet :D)

It's hard to see the reflectiveness and deepness cause of the failing light, we'll see if I can get better pics tomorrow.. enjoy!

Nothings cleaning those wheels.. maybe dynamite?

Thanks guys.. I was too happy with the results.. the saying "you can't polish a turd comes to mind" but it looks like I just did.. :D

It's still a turd, now its shiny!

If it turned out this good by hand, just think of the results you can get out of it with a PC!!

Jdookie: Thats what I kept thinking to myself yesterday.. that and how much less sore my arms would be..

Setec: Yea.. it's chipping, peeling, and has some minor rusting.. this is a close up:

I have no idea how it happened, I've only had the car a short period of time.. if you look close you can see the little individual marks (the real small straight lines) there are some more of those on the trunk, just not as bad..

nice job! that picture of the passenger side, front half looks sweet! and the roof got cleaned up really well. :xyxthumbs :bounce

just wait until you can use a PC on it. big difference. as for the rims, probably what ZaneO recommended with a good brush to get in between. that is one things nice about the 10-holes, it's quite easy to get into them. :p

Yea, I need to find some cheap 10 holes or ponies, much nicer. Those things need to be cleaned with fire.

I was half tempted to use that combo on my cobra as it has some real minor swirling, but after 6hrs in the sun doing my dads truck and then my hooptie, I was done.

I'm hooked.. I really want to get a PC now so I can really get some of that crap out. I'm gonna try and con my family members into pitching in on one with me.. we'll all benefit from it! :D

Thanks for the praise guys! :D

pony rims are nice, esp. with a good 225/50 R 16 tire. have you tried anything on your turbine rims to get them clean?

yeah, con your family to get a PC. if your birthday is coming up, that's usually a good excuse. but you'll love it and have fun with it, although i found out that i'm super picky now that i got a PC, and i want to get all the swirls out, which causes me to spend hours working on the car. at least my arms aren't tired. :D

:( Instead of buying a PC, I'm going to throw my money away on this:

Just needa replace the starter, and then sell it. Then maybe I'll get a PC. LoL.

I'm a sad, sad, man.

sell it as it is, like first $500, and that should be enough to get you a PC, a bunch of pads, and more products!

well, hopefully all will go well and you'll have gotten some money to get a PC. :)

hehehe, thats what I'm thinking of doing.. I might fix it just to do some burnouts, and then sell out. LoL!

But I'm for sure getting a PC with the profits (unless I find another stupid, stupid car that lures my money from me)

oh yeah, can't forget about abusing the car before selling it! just be sure to put a few layers of wax on the panels behind the rear wheels so that you can remove all the burnt rubber easily! :D

and just keep telling yourself, it's for a PC, it's for a PC....

Turbines are like dirt retainers. The Turbines on my old '89 were never clean no matter what I used :(

LoL BlackMach.. I agree.. they're also quite possibly one of the ugliest wheels ever made. Blech!
