3 NEW PICTURES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!

Well, yesterday was the first day of working on this beautiful porsche. he owner wanted to start out small, and see what i could do, then move into the real restore work. Thus far we have polished out the paint, and wolfganged it. The trim has all been re-dyed using TOL's kit. The leather was re-conditioned, but was already in pretty good contition. The plastic parts were removed cleaned, and re-cleared. the old cloth weatherstripping around the window was razored off, and replaced with clean new velvet. The edges of the carpet that were fraying, and faded were cut and cleaned up, the re colored black to match the rest of the carpet. All in all we did a ton of work, around 12 hours thus far. The owner called today and was Overjoyed at how good it looked. He said it has never been so nice since the day he bought it (17 years ago). We are going to meet on the 6th to discuss what we can do to the vehicle to make it 100% show ready and restored. I am loving this project :) I even got to replaced the fan belt that i noticed had slipped (it is scary to take a wrench to a old porsche that is still worth more than either of my vehicles) Anyhow, here are some of the pics. You can see full resolution ones at www.ddetail.com/gallery/87Porsche

The after pics came out blurry since it was dark, and i was using a $10 point and shoot camera that i picked up since i left my camera at home. I will get better pics soon.

Here are some teasers to make you click the link (or them):

Before:

Half polished with DACP

(The wheel wells got cleaned after the pic :( )

This is the paint done, but it was getting dark, so i took the pic before the trim was done

I think Anthony O did the same detail just a few weeks ago too. and i have a blue one just like this lined up early july. I love these cars!!

EDIT: I added other cars and such to the gallery, and i am adding 3 more tonight so check those out too, i dont want to make another post, i am too tired :o

:wavey Mike

Mike,

Nice work..very indepth.

These types of projects are sure fun eh?

Get some sun pics when you get the chance, would love to see them.

Oh, i definatly will, when i talked to the owner, he was like, "I know you told me to leave it in the garage today so everything could dry and set-up, but i had to pull it out into the driveway to see it in the sun" and from that single minute two of his neighbors will now be customers of mine :) I cant wait till he takes it to work. He said he will keep a box of Cards in the glove box for anyone that is gawking at it at the gas station or whatever. You cant imagine how happy i am with myself and my staff most of all. I was assisted by my fiances friend. She called up and asked for some part time work for some extra $$, i didn't have high expectations (wash and vacuum girl) BOY WAS I WRONG! She dyed most of the trim, she painted the spots that needed touch-up, she even cleaned the door, engine and trunk jambs. I told her she was hired!

Anyhow Anthony, yeah i will be there on the 6th for the excursion, and to talk to the owner about showing the car so i will get better pics then.

Good help is hard to find so count yourself as lucky. Women make great detailers by the way......and are alot nicer to look at then some other dude:)

I like when Erin helps, she's funny. :)

I keep sending offers of employment to Salma Hayek but so far no replies:(

Maybe she already has a job she likes:nixweiss

So today after doing this, i got to paint the front bumper on a 119 civic, and re-dye the trim. I am starting to feel like a body shop, not a detail shop :p

Does anyone have any tips for fixing rips in leather, or does it just need to be re-upholstered. We are trying to make this car 120% perfect!

Too true! I had a woman working for me a few years ago through the holiday rush. She did outstanding work but she wanted to finish college and I got the idea her fiance (now her ex husband) didn't like her working with another man.

tpgsr-outstanding work! Any chance you can post more pics? I can't see enough 911s!

Scott, Did you click the link or the pictures?? there are 24 more in my gallery, but they are all really bad quality since i left my good camera in buffalo. I will make sure to get good ones after the 4th of july, and i will post them here :)

How I missed that link, I don't know. Long day I guess!

You know, I bet some Wolfgang topped with some Liquid Souveran would be just the ticket for it. :o Too bad you don't know anybody with some Liquid Souveran that's willing....:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :)

Here are the 3 pictures i took a week later in some better lighting conditions.

Clicking the pictures will take you to a full resolution (1500x1000) shot!

Very nice. I was admiring your website too.

Anyways, it seems though your camera takes good pictures some of the time, other times it seem as though they are cloudy. What gives?

different cameras, different lighting conditions, and having to adjust the fstop, shutterspeed. The reason some of the pics that you see are cloudy though is because my camera was damaged, and i was using a disposable camera for a few days untill mine got back to working order.

All in all the pictures on that site were taken with: 2 different digitals, 1 good slr, and 2 horrific disposables. I just need to dump $2k into a camera that is consistent, and durable to my abuse!

2 of the cameras that i have used are digital, I used Corey's that is now gone thanks to thievs, and i used a kodak camera that my father let me borrow last time i was in town. Those were the only digitals. The shots from them were consistantly clear, the shots from the disposable were all blurry, and the shots from my good camera are always very good, unless i mess up one of the variables.

When i buy my next camera, i am going to buy one of the nice new digital SLR, like 11MP, then i will get really reall large accuratet pictures. I took one shot of a fender using one before, and it was great because a regular camera saw no defects left. I zoomed in realy far on the computer with the ultra high quality shot, and you could see the smallest of marring that was invisible to the naked eye!!! So in striving for perfection, that is a great tool! Expensive, but great!
