#80 vs. FP vs. SSR1 ???

Unfortunatly I'm not writing a review on this one. I'm very curious to see if anyone can give a review of #80 against these other 2 products. I currently have both IP and SSR1 but I'm getting low on both products and I see that Scottwax uses #80 with very impressive results (of course I'm sure that he could probably use anything with great results). I'm just curious how #80 stacks up against the other 2 as I near the point of needing to reorder a final polish.

Also...for the #80 users could you please use technique for using this product with a PC ( I'm assuming polishing pad and maybe 4-4.5 on the PC???)

Andy,

If you want I could trade you some #80 for some SSR1, so you could check it out for yourself.

I'd love to but I'm down to the last little bit in the bottle and probably don't even have enough left for 1 car...same with the FP...I need to get something ordered today which is why I'm trying to figure this out.

If I end up ordering SSR1 due to lack of anyone having any good comparisons of the 3 I'll let you know and trade with you when I get a new bottle.

Id like to know too how #80 compares to .

Ive used FP with great results. Im coming low on FP and would like to know which would be better/easier to use.

Hummm....nobody's got a #80 review. In looking further into the Meguiars products it would appear as though #80 is more agressive than #82...so maybe $82 is a better comparison to FP and SSR1...maybe closer to SSR2...but sounds like Scottwax has much success going from #80 right to a LSP. this could be good on moderatly swirled vehicles in need of something more than a FP or SSR1.

Anyhow...if anyone's got comments on #80 I'm still listening. Thanks

i can only speak of #80with pc and polishing pad, it leaves your finish wet and shiny. i have not used the others but i am also intrested in SSR1 and 2 , and especially FP.

comparing these to #80, i'd like to know:

-aggresiveness?

-how leaves the finish?

-it's ease of use?

(i am looking to try these products after dacp cutting pad with pc)

finding it hard to remove haze completly, looking for something just a tad bit more aggresive then #80 but not nearly as aggresive as dacp to remove haze.

If you used DACP with the Megs cutting pad you'll need to go back over it again with DACP and a polish pad to remove the hazing.

Work in small areas (about 2 sq ft.) with a fairly high PC speed but slow arm passes. I work it until it just about all dusts away and it leaves a nice finish. You may have to do this 3 or 4 times to remove the hazing you created with the cutting pad.

I've had good luck going from DACP as used above right to an LSP, but sometimes #80 is needed, and in your case it may benefit you to follow up with it also.

#80 works a bit differently, it breaks down fairly quickly so make a couple of overlapping passes for coverage and work it until it turns clear (or some say pink..... anyway it'll change color).

You need to work DACP with a polish pad to remove what you left with the cutting pad before you move to #80. Be patient and work small areas at a time so you get a feel for what the product is doing.

I can't give you a comparison, but I used FP this last weekend and it worked pretty good. It was easy to work and remove and I did the headlights and tailights with it as well.

I can't comment on the FP as it has been a while since I last used it. I couldn't make it work for me so I got rid of it.

The #80 will do a lot more work than the SSR1. I tend to think of SSR1 as below even #9 in terms of abrasiveness. I use it on my car as a great clean up polish to remove the tiny marring that I accumulate after a few months of washing, drying, QD'ing, etc.

I use #80 for light to moderately swirled cars when I am only doing a two step. You can certainly go from #80 to your LSP without problem. I really do not think of #80 as a final polish though. If I was looking for something in the meguiars line to be a final polish I would probably lean more towards the #82.

If I use a product like DACP with the rotary I would usually follow up with the SSR1 via PC.

In terms of looks, the SSR1 is a bit brighter where the #80 will darken the paint more.

The #80 leaves the paint squeeky clean, SSR1 leaves a really slick paint surface.

When applying #80 with the PC I use a polishing pad and work it until it is almost gone, then move to the next section. I do this all the way around the car, then remove in reverse order with MF. I know some people prefer to work and remove a section at a time, but not me.

Hope this helps
