Awesome site ladies and gents. I finally found a group that appreciates a clean car as much as I do-and doesn't accuse me of OCD haha. The amount of knowledge and expertise here is astounding-I can only hope to match it with my ambition. I just got my 1979 Monte Carlo on the road again; after 5 years of "working in progress," I put an LS1 under the hood and got a fresh coat of black paint. I graduated from Virginia Tech in May, and I'm headed down to my duty station in Camp Lejeune, NC (Marine Corps) in a few days. Thanks for teaching me how to keep the Monte clean with more advanced methods than a spit shine.

Thanks. I'm going Logistics-both my unit and school are down there (not sure if I lucked out on that one or not, since it's Lejeune). You still in?

Sounds like a nice plan. Hope all goes well over your next 4+ years!

I'm out. US Army Airborne Infantry HOOAH ;)

I want to see this 79 Monte! I myself own a few chevy's. 2001 and a 1978 Monte Carlo...with a 2010 Camaro that sits with them now. But nonetheless I would love to see your car.

Oh and welcome :)

MuttGrunt-Bad ***-but it's spelled OOHRAH haha.

Monte-I saw your screen name while I was lurking and it definitely piqued my interest. I'm jealous you have both a third-gen Monte and a 2010 SS-two of the sweetest rides a man can have. My 79 is my (soon-to-be) daily driver-how bout you? I can't access your pics for some reason. I haven't taken any shots of the Monte just yet-I'm still doing some work on it, like usual haha. I'm actually about to order some drop springs, shocks, and a suspension package from SC&C. What're you running? I'd really like to pick your brain to see how you're keeping the ride clean.

haha welcome to the site, and its Hooah, US Army Special Forces 3rd Bn 7th SFG(A).

Thank you for serving our country!:welcome:usa

I was in for a little while and got discharged on medical (foot/ankle/leg injury), I wish I was still in, something about being paid to carry a big weapon was really badass and defending our country wasn't half bad itself! :)

Welcome to the forum & I completely understand about the OCDness lol

I 2nd Monte78Carlo2k1's request for pics of the '79!!!:welcome

Haha well...my car and my pictures are by no means up to the autopia standards for sure. Right now, the Monte is sitting on the lift while the drums and calipers dry from my attempt to hide the rust on 'em. I haven't taken any pictures of it since the LS1 drop or the paint job. But, the guy who did the swap (a former Marine, coincidentally) documented it here: DiabloFormula Racing - Ben's 1979 Monte Carlo LS1 Swap Hope this can hold ya over til I can wash it with my newly purchased gallon of ONR once this wicked weather lets up.

My 78 is my first car that was given to me when I was a junior in HS. My grandma was the original owner she bought new off the lot:dance. But now it just sits in the driveway and when I get time I am in the middle of looking for parts and doing metal work on it. Its current completely stock everything. One day I hope to have mine look and sound as nice as your 79.

bwalker25-I agree; There's no other job where you can get the govt to pay you to wear pajamas, hang out with your best friends, and shoot guns all day.

Monte78Carlo2k1-That's awesome. Sometimes I wish I had more original parts for ease of restoration, but at least it makes the "upgrading" easier haha. I'm sure you'll have a very clean (and rarely original) Monte when you're done. Besides, you've got to spend time burning the rubber off those new Camaro tires.

Jaidedeye-Thanks. How far is Seymour from Lejeune? My dad retired from the Airforce in '88, but don't tell my Marine Corps buddies haha.
