#7 polish with wax

NattyBumppo

Strange name, ain't it?
I'd like to get opinions on something I've done more than a few times without any problems, but as of late, have shyed away from feeling something wasn't right. I was shown this by a guy who regularly detailed a collection of Ferraris, Jags and Bentleys. The only difference is where he was using a professional polisher, I'm using a homeowner Sears Orbital that I've had for many years (I can already see the comments on the Sears orbital coming).

Using a terry bonnet, swirl some #7 mirror glaze from the outside of the bonnet inward. Then take a small putty knife and dab paste wax (I use #26) in several spots on the bonnet. Apply with the orbital, wait a few minutes and buff off.

Like I said, I never had any problems and actually, it produced pretty darn good results. But lately, reading here and other websites, I've started doing the #7 and #26 as isolated steps.

Is that crazy, harmful (not sure how it could be) or just wasting product?

Sounds like an interesting experiment.....

but the solvents on one product would prbably effect the other product and you get a cleaner wax whendone maybe.....

Why not have fun and do each as a separate step and enjoy the detailing experience and have a few beers to boot!:D
