Al, I am sooo jealous! I wanted that car, but the wife wanted the accord instead! I see you got the stick shift! KILLER!!!! Are you going to get the chrome wheel upgrade???? :bow :bow :bow

I had my heart set on an Acura 3.2CL TYPE S. I was a little dissappointed in it. First off, it is only available in an automatic transmission. Once you feel the power though, it just doesn't matter. It's the fastest of the bunch in a straight line. The first thing I noticed was that it is very front heavy. It doesn't have the 50/50 weight dist. of the german cars and it really showed in its handling. It can't keep up in the twisties with the other cars in your list. The other thing that bothered me was lack of traction from the puny 215 series 17" tires they give you, and noticable torque steer under full acceleration. Other than that....great car....nice interior, very comfortable, comes fully loaded and a GREAT Price!

I only drove the IS300 with an automatic. At the time, it was no contest for the 325i. Besides the styling at the time (which is growing on me), I just was not happy with it's performance and really wanted a manual transmission.

The IS300 with a 5 speed should be compared to a 325i 5 speed. They are both about neck and neck performance wise. the IS300 might be a bit faster in the straight line, but the bimmer has the edge on handling and poise with that beloved sports package suspension. You can't go wrong with either.

If you really want to be ahead of the game and can afford 37-40K, go with a 330i.....that 3.0L engine is amazing.

Another alternative you should consider is the AUDI A4. The new styling is sharp, and it drives very nicely.

Good luck and give us reports after you test drive!

That is one great looking car. Im jealous too! Coooool Guages! Great work AlBoston. Enjoy!

Later...........Syker your Friendly Yankee Fan.

:xyxthumbs

Thanks everyone, I'm going to klasse the wheels next and go for coat 2 of SG tommorow.

My buddy has '00 TL and just had his transmission fixed second time. I'm quite familiar with his car and I drove TL-S. Engine is very nice and powerful but tranny sucks and I'm talking about manual mode. It shifts with a 1sec delay, sometimes shifts itself, which can be pretty frustrating. The car has dialed in heavy understeer, which many folks find safe, but it kills all fun and like DK said tires are crappy. It has nice ride and comfort, a lot of features and navigation is great, but it is simply not in the same leauge as RWD cars you guys mentioned.

Al, you made a much better choice:up :up

It IS sweet!

thanks F1, the power on this car is unbelivable. Pulls hard in any gear!

Did you get your car at Ira Toyota in Danvers, I can tell the parking lot from anywhere..... maybe I'm wrong.

Another question ............ where the heck is that car? A detailing shop or something? That is one nice space, I would rather spend the night with my car there than go home.

WoW :bow To both the car and that garage !!! Lots of detailing room !!! That is about as close to mirror like as possible !!

No actually that is not Ira Toyota... I bought the car at Lexus of Norwood. And no that was not taken at lexus of norwood ;) . That detailing shop is where i work. Very large, hold about 20 cars and is always at 71 degrees :D .

I really like how the Klasse makes the paint just glow, even in "colder" lighting conditions. The reflections look wonderful.

For 2002, the CL Type-S is now available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Acura also added a viscous limited slip differential and a few other handling and styling improvements.

It still has that torque steer, but its certainly not bad for a FWD. It looks good on paper.. still... I would have a 3-series, A4, or IS over the CL any day.

Xenons look really yellow, is that the camera or is that how they look normally? Nice car :up was considering that myself but couldnt wait for the manual tranny.

Jeepers creepers, does that guy rent space? If I could I would pay to use it for a day here and there.... wow.... seeing that garage is like a dream man. Throw in a couch, bed, tv and some food and I have my house!

If you guys do touch up paint, like on the edge of the doors and stuff maybe I would swing by, I need a window re-tinted ........ let me know what you guys do will ya?

the fogs on the car are yellow, but they xenons are very blue. Ill take some more pics of them at night. Joe, I don't work for the detail shop but the people I know that work down there I don't think are that good at doing touch ups. I've never really seen them touch up any cars though. Let me ask them next time I'm in the detail bay (which is often) and I'll ask them.

Hey Al, do you think you can ask if I can detail my car there, if there is a fee included it would be fine. I would even detail after hours and be out of there before they came in.... I don't know, just a thought........

Unfortunately Joe I do not have the authority to rent out a space in the shop. It is used to recon new cars and clean new cars for delivery at the dealership. I just go down there when it isn't busy and clean my car. I can ask if something can be arranged but it is pretty much an employee only thing (insurance risks etc.). The shop is pretty loaded though, has air compressor lines, 10 shop vacs, pressure washer, heated :up, etc. They also have tons of buffers and tons of supplies (but I always use my own stuff). I will ask the shop manager if something can be arranged.

Hey, thanks Al, any effort you put foward is always more than appericated.... just trying to find a place where I don't need to worry about the elements ya know.

Thanks again man.

Very nice Car. I know you will have some great motoring with the Lexus. Their quality and materials are the best in the business barring none. I bet you can not tell when the engine is idling and the workmanship is supreme. Good luck and watch out for those pot holes in Boston and the bumper car parking idiots ( I lived there for 43 yrs). My 95 LS400 has over 90K miles ( family work horse ) and still runs and looks like new. My Lexus seems to have a very hard and thick clear coat in comparison to my Z28 and with a sealant you should get many miles and years of that "brand new" car appearance.

CONGRATULATIONS :bounce

Can you get a navigation as an option with that car? Where would it be located on the dash if you did?

Also, what did you do to get the brakes rust free?

Ryan

yep this is what it looks like with the navigation.

edit: And it is only the surface that is bare metal (where the pads touch the rotors) that was rusty (because it rained the night before). The rest of the rotor is painted silver from the factory.
