Hello all-

I just got my PC, and am wondering what the next product I should use if SMR doesn't completely remove my swirls? The name of the game here is safety, I don't want to use anything too strong. Thanks a ton!!

Brett:)

I've been using Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 I don't even use 3m SMR anymore. Seems to have oils in it that are a pain to remover. I also think 3m SMR is harder to use and I don't seen any different results betwen 3m SMR and Meguiars #9

Depends, I wouldn't step up in the product line until you have used all of the pads, why don't you give the yellow pad a shot. The yellow pad with SMR will take care of quite a bit of swirls, if you have deeper swirls you can take a shot at 3M FI-II

This time use greater pressure and hold the PC steady (use a firm grip), letting the pad complete the orbits. Go over an area three times or more (left/right + up/down = one time) until the SMR is gone. Lighten the pressure with each successive pass.

I found it got all my swirls, leaving only the OFFICIAL SCRATCHES.

Well if your using the 3M Swirl Mark Remover and if it is not working too well maybe you can just change your method of application to possibly get different results. I was a little worried myself but I heard from someone a while back that the pressure from the Porter Cable is not going to hurt your paint, it'll just help make the product (SMR) work more efficent. I'm not saying strap a 25 pound weight to the Porter Cable and bash it around, all in good judgement.

I apply the product to the pad or the panel and I get my Porter Cable up to speed 4 to 4.5, I move it at the rate of about one inch per one second for the first pass with pressure, I make the motor work... on my second pass, I move about two inches per second with half of the pressure of the first pass, I do the same for the 3rd pass and on the 4th the motor is spinning as free as a bird and the product is already hazed, I just wipe off the 3M from there.

When I first started I used to apply hardly any pressure on the Porter Cable and it was a pain, I had to make WAY too many passes and I was causing swirls from the pad going over the surface too many times. The 3M Swirl Mark Remover is a really good product, if you use the right method of application.

Take it easy bro.

luke talked me into coming here... lol
been slowly learning or just doing some detailing. still not to far into it but the latest car I just completed finally showed some decent results... enjoy :)

Nice looking wagon, I really like that color!

It's like I'm being haunted by a future headache, I have Wednesday through Friday this week for an old Chevy wagon. So much surface area! ~X(

Very nice work!

You have any more pics of the engine compartment? That radiator looks abnormally huge! Would like to see what it looks like. Maybe it's just the angle that picture was shot.
