After 5 years of wear and tear, my '00 WS6 is in need of a good polishing to get rid of swirls and scuffs. Knowing that there are no flat surfaces on the body, would the investment of a 4.5" set of foam pads be worthwhile, or can the edge of a larger pad do just as well without too much localized pressure. I will be using the Zaino system, (have been since new) with all the prep steps required. I just don't want to get frustrated trying to fit a lage pad into a depressed area of the coachwork. BTW, I came to this site from LS1.com upon reccomendation of KevinSS. All I can say is this is the best site ever for those of us that want to look our very best all the time. Thanks for any input.
 
Are you using a Porter Cable?



I use 6.5" pads with my PC. Pressure and heat aren't much of a factor with a random orbital.



What is your planned prep?
 
I knew I'd forget something. I am using a PC. I will be prepping with a good wash, clay, and inspection. A few stone chips and scratches will be filled and sanded, then a polish with a yet to be decided polish. I'm leaning towards the 3M line since it is available from my local auto paint store. they carry the Mequire's line also so I might them a try. KNowing that the Fiberglass body is "curvacious" to say the least, I just don't want to get started, and find out that I need more equipment.
 
Well, some smaller pads might make it easier for the sides of the hood scoops, etc., but you also have to factor in the time it takes to switch backing plates and pads to do those small areas.



3M and Meguiar's both have good polishes, but my personal favorites are Menzerna and Poorboy's.
 
I appreciate your insight, but I have tome for reasearch, and purchasing. The crummmy Michigan weather still has the car indoors covered. It's been a very long winter.
 
you can use the 6.5" pads for all the areas just be careful like under the spoiler in the crevices of the foglights, and in the area where the DRL's are @. You can use 3m products but the majority of the good products are sold in quarts which can get expensive. You may be better off goin with some like like menzerna, HiTems and so on. I know black can be hard to do especially on a WS6 but i just becareful on what you use cause if you get micromarring, its a lot easier to remove with a rotory than with a PC so choose your products wisely. I had used the 3m RC on a z28 hood and it hazed the crap out of it. Needless to say i had to use another polishing step to remove the hazing then i went on. So live n learn.
