4" pad correction

If one were to correct an entire vehicle using only 4" pads how many estimated would take to get the job done?

I've been struggling with M105/5.5" LC cyan pad via PC. Thinking of bumping down to 4" rather than experimenting with 5.5" LC yellow then PFW.

Any thoughts?

Depending on the size of the job, whether or not you spur/clean on the fly, will determine the number you need. I'd say anywhere from 3 -> 6.\

If M105 and a 5.5" Cyan won't "cut" it. I'd highly recommend trying the 5.5" PFW. Amazing cut with minimal linting, and it's the closest thing to wool you'll get on a DA.

Then again... I find it hard to believe that M105 and a Cyan isn't doing the job.

Xfire0125- Short answer: "A lot".

I used at least 8 pads via Flex when doing my last major correction, and those were 6.5" ones!

With 4" pads (and yeah, I think that's the way to go via PC unless you want to try SurBufs) I think you'll need many more than you'd ever expect if only because they need to be not only clean, but *dry*.

Depending on how big the vehicle is, and how much correction/work you'll be doing, you might want to plan on at least one 4" pad per panel, with a few extras just because [stuff] happens.

I'd rather spend money on extra pads (not like they go bad or anything...) and be prepared so the job goes as smoothly as possible. Saving money might end up trading dollars for frustration and I'd rather do without the frustration.

rtom- Working via PC, with M105, I've found that any pads larger than 4" are a waste of time on most of my vehicles. (No, I haven't tried the SurBufs.) I know that's different from what others sometimes experience, but hey...it either works or it doesn't :nixweiss

Thanks for the answers guys!

Rtom - M105 with a cyan was cutting but, not as much as I hoped on a somewhat soft paint. It would cut the swirls about half in depth with multiple section passes.

I tried it again today and tried the KBM and turns out more working time was the answer!

Accumulator - 8 - 6.5 inch pads is alot! Thanks for putting my question in reality. Now say if i go this route with the 4" all around just for correction purposes what pads would you recommend stocking up on? Working with a very hard clear I was thinking a few PFW (or yellow?), and a ton of Cyan, Tangerine.

I just got amazing results with 4" PFW on my G110 with 105. Id suggest that. So much faster...

however, you will want probably at least 5 and a brush to clean them with.

Wonder how those 5.5" orange pads will work for you...too big for me via PC

Remember to really *DRY OUT* those Hydrotech pads after cleaning before you resume work with them.
