3M's polishing pad

Hey all,

I'd like to know if any of you ever had problems removing swirls using 3M's convoluted pads ? Yesterday I was trying to remove swirls on the hood of my dad's car, but in vain, although the pad was primed etc....then I gave Meg's 6.5 inches polishing pad, and I was able to remove em swirls.

It left me scracthing my head as to why ? If any of you ever experience the same, please chime in. I don't think it was technique related , as I always keep the pad real flat at all time, except when doing fenders and such areas.

Best regards

IMHO, the Meguiar's polishing pad feels just a tiny bit more dense than the 3M polishing pad. So maybe that's a possibility.

Swirls on he hood just wouldn't go away with 3M's polishing pad + #83, but did go away with Meg's polishing pad +#83, at least I got rid of most of them. I was using the same speed of round 1750 rpm with both products....only thing that made a diff between swirls being there and then not there, was the choice of my pad....I wonder what's the deal with 3M's polishing pad, and mind you the pad was brand new on top of it, it had never been used before.

Another riddle for me to rak my brain on ...oh brother :(

It's been a while since I've used convoluted pads, but as I recall, the convolutions make the pads milder. Less surface contact. More for final polishing than for removing marring.
